How bad is this tyre?

i dont post on this board much anymore, but even ive read your posts about often doing big speeds on the A13. tbh, judging from what ive seen of your posts, you seem to come across as a 16 year old posting about what car your dad drives

anyone who takes driving remotely seriously and likes to drive quickly but has a sense of self preservation shouldnt be asking that at all.

spam, tbh

If im honest i must agree to a certain extent, i drive fast a lot of the time and have a car much more capable of high speed than an E46 BMW, yet i would still consider "regular" stints at 150mph to be excessive. Taking it with a pinch of salt and i think others should do the same.

Really sorry to go OT but how's the Merc going for you?
(can't think of another opportunity to ask you)

I think a lot of people myself included when u get your first fast car hit the magic number where it cant go any faster slow down and then drive sensibly from then on.

I know I did it with the golf Gti and I done it with the bmw but once its done thats it.

I couldnt ever drive daily above 80 I dont want a ban :p

Pretty similar here. I had the Clio bouncing on the limiter in 5th doing ~150.

It wasn't safe and I won't do it again, but I was on a big, open, empty road with masses of visibility for miles and no-one around me.

I typically cruise at 80-85 on the motorway. Sometimes a little faster, sometimes slower even if I'm really not in a rush. I'm much more sensible now I've had a pretty fast car, though I've had it a while and I'm sure age and maturity are also factors :)

Always on msn if you ever need to ask anything about it (jt AT hotmail DOT co DOT uk)

Absolutely love it, by far the best car ive ever owned. It does everything brilliantly, and i cant help but stare at it every time i park it, even though it spills out of the space because it doesnt fit anywhere. :D It even handles fairly well if you stick the hydractive system into sports mode! Magnificent car in every way, makes my BMW's look like toys :)

Literally only downside to this car is that i have barely turned 22, where do i have to go from here? Short of a rolls royce or a bentley i will never own a better car :(

If anyone has ever driven a high performance BMW, they will understand how it is possible to drive fast

I drive a 530i Sport, even more capable of high speed cruising than a 330i.

155mph sustained speed on UK roads is absolutely wreckless and is simply an accident waiting to happen. The car can handle it without issue. The driver, road conditions and other road users absolutely cannot.

There is doing it once 'just to see' (Something I can't bring myself to do no matter how tempting) and there is sustained and often driving at this speed. You know very well which of these brackets you fall into Sam :/

Plus do the police not put you off at all? You won't be able to slow down in time if a copper is around, and if you get caught doing 155mph you are going to get a custodial sentance. Seriously, doesn't that scare the **** out of you? It does me and it's why I don't drive bonkers fast. My car can easily do 155mph but I don't fancy doing a jail sentance or receiving a driving ban, so the only use of the 155mph VMAX is banter down the pub.

This thread has taken an interesting road...

I see the point of view of - child killer etc.

I see what Fox is saying as well.

I to have been tempted and have completely maxed out my car at 129 on the gps, was fairly chuffed with this as the car came out of the factory at a quoted top 135.

When I first hit 129 it felt very weird, obviously I was still in focus etc. But it still felt strange and somewhat awesome (regardless having been at faster speeds on Bikes/Cars)

Then later on, on that very same journey, now I knew the car could go that fast it felt VERY easy to do that speed again, without that strange feeling and think of it as a cruising speed.

I suspect Sam is somewhat similar to myself, wanting that original high of the top speed, now find it very easy to go back there. I know that with my next car which will be faster and capable of 140 - 150 from when I hit 131 onwards I'll get that same strange rush/feeling and then after that, again, find it easy to go back to that speed.

Then, knowing my luck, I'll probably have an accident and if by some chance survive it, go back to driving sensibly for a little while and gradually start creeping the speeds up again. Gawd I never learn!

You are ****** if an animal jumps on the road.

You will ever A) Swerve and crash and die, not even driving aids will help at that speed. Or B) Hit the animal, Smash they **** out of the car and still probably have a very good chance of it beign a serious accident or at least a written off car with you in hospital.

BMW drivers never fail to amaze me..............
Ermm, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Vauxhall, Ford, Renault - it doesn't make any difference.
Change ASAP.
Cords on show mean it could go pop at any time/temp.
Thanks :)

Just so we all know, I'm not regularly doing 150 down anything other than good roads. People local to me should know the A13, A130 and A127. A13 is, at points, suitable for very high speed. A130 is not as good as the A13 is in parts, despite the fact that everyone goes along that road at Warp 10. A127 I've never driven that fast on as you just don't have the room nor visibility. I agree with you that age and maturity will also play a factor. I don't rely on my car for work at all, and so there isn't that "what will I do without a car" thing looming over me. As that changes no doubt so will my driving. It's also likely I'll slow down as I get older.

That's a possibility. At high speed I'm looking out as best I can at the road ahead of me and what's happening at the side of the road. I'm obviously not combing it like RADAR, though it's not a road where an animal will typically stray.

This is a photo of part of the A13. As you can see, it's quite a big A road, although this is a photo of one of the bends not really suitable for ~150.

.... and as a side note, im pretty sure i got 'done' by a laser trap parked to the side of a bridge on the A12 yesterday (north, just past chelms)

i was only doing 85 ish, id love to see their video of the offence, not a infront or behind me for ages. safety by numbers stinks, but at big big speeds youre asking for your licence to go on holiday lol

i hope you have better luck than i avoiding these stupid cameras

I've been caught and received 3 points for a speeding offence before, but on the A413 in Wendover. You must agree though - there is a total abscence of law enforcement from Sadler's Farm to Lakeside! I've never seen nor heard of one speed trap, and there can't be more than 1 police car per week patrolling it :p

Hardly comparable is it?
Comparing a clio to a e46.

it would be foolish of me to expect everyone else to compensate for how fast I am going, which is why I compensate for them.
Best advice is- drive with the assumption that everyone is blind.

You'd rather be driven by a blind man?? :p
True! :p

I was nearly put off taxis for life the other day. I was being driven along and there was a loud wheel bearing noise, and the revs kept climbing on their own. I asked him what was up and he said "Oh, the throttle keeps sticking". Fair enough. Wheel bearing? "Oh, it's getting fixed tommorow" (yeah right). He then tells me the story of when he had a wheel bearing go in a Granada, he nearly killed himself!? I nearly barrel rolled out the door

hey its the taxi way :)

mines constantly has something needing done but thats more to do with it being on the eoad 20 hours a day 7 days a week :)

as for PMKeates dont get caught or it will be the big hoose for you :)

as for the tyre just dont do it get the spare on thats unsafe as well as a point getter

I just rung my local tyre place, and they aren't expecting Eagle F1 Asymmetric's in for quite a while. Looks like I've got to do some hunting now!!

Edit: Just went out and checked my spare to find it's a Continental 125/80 R17 99M with "INFLATE TO 60PSI" written on it. I can feel the grip from here!! :D

I think some of you are potentialy making a rod for your own back talking about how quickly you drive on the road, and even more so when you discuss the road on which you do it. Very foolish and far from impressive.

It is fair to assume that most people speed at some time in their life, including the vast majority of off duty police officers, but outlining how you did 150mph is bloody madness. To cruise at 150mph in the UK is utter madness and is asking for trouble. You WILL stand out like a saw thumb, and you will be spotted on CCTV eventually...

When you get to those sorts of speeds the biggest problem is actually other drivers more often than not, and no matter how good you think you are its those people you have to account for. We live in a country where the mantra is Mirror, Signal, Manouver, but where the actual practice is signal, begin to move, if you are lucky have a quick look in the mirror when over the white line. At 150mph that causes all sorts of problems simply less apparent at normal motorway speeds.

Most people stretch their car at sometime, and do stupid things we regret, but I urge you not to amplify the issue by posting it all over the internet, you are asking for trouble and tempting fate too if you ask me.
