How do you wake up in the morning?

I have a real problem getting out of bed in the morning when the alarm goes. This morning it caused me to be over an hour late for probably the most important meeting since I started with my current employer. I have tried setting 2 alarms, setting 2 alarms and leaving them both in different corners of the room so I need to get out of bed etc etc - but I can't find anything that will overcome my desire to hit snooze and return to bed.
Does anyone have any tips to help me?

I have a serious case of the Snooze button as well, therefore I set my alarm for an hour before I actually have to get out of bed. Even then I struggle.

You need to force yourself to get up out of bed. The first thing you need to do is to walk out of your bedroom and go have a shower.

I find it helps no-end :)

On a side note... god knows how I'm going to cope when I go back to work. Loving the 11am wake-up at the moment... /yawn :p

I never have a problem getting up really, sure i'd like to stay in, but i know i shouldn't. The alarm scares the bejebus out of me and i just want to turn it off as fast as possible, so i guess the sudden heart attack helps a bit. It also helps just to think that as soon as you get up your tiredness will fairly quickly go away. Recommended to go straight in the shower after arising. :p

Leave a gap of 6 inches or a foot when you close the curtains at night. The light coming into the room before the alarm goes off lets your body slowly wake up, so when the alarm goes off, you're already "awake" as it were, just need to open your eyes and get up.

If I sleep with the curtains shut and am woken by my alarm, it takes me a good half an hour to get myself out of bed too.

Tried it. It actually made the problem worse cause I knew that I could hit snooze at least 6 times before I needed to get up. However counting to 6 isn't easy when you're asleep so it ended up getting hit 10 times and I was still late.

Nope, I can have 4hrs sleep and if my alarm goes of im up and awake, if i have been eating crap for a while it can cause me to be sleepy but generally im up with out a problem.

That sounds like a great idea. It'll only work for a couple more weeks though til I'm getting up in the dark!

You need a kick up the ass. If you can't even get out of bed on time then there isn't much hope for you, is there?

It's simple, once you hear the alarm, you get out of bed and get into the shower. If you haven't got the willpower to do that then you might as well just quit the job.

lol, fair point but sometimes when my alarm clock goes off I get up and turn it off without even realising because I'm still mostly asleep.

Use freezing cold water then.

That's a joke, right? Neva :p

I also drink on the night to make me tired so I go to bed early, but the earlier I go to sleep the more tired I am. On weekends I get up around 3pm naturally, so 7-8am isn't enough :(

A big solution is to treat your bedroom and especially your bed as a place which is dedicated to sleep. If you make sure that you only sit or lie in bed to sleep then you train your brain to switch off when you goto bed.

Then make sure that you climb out of bed when you wake up (my personal choice was to place my alarm on the other side of the room). Once up stay away from the bed!

After just about a week of doing this you'll notice that you fall asleep quicker and wake up more alert. Just remember not to fall back into bad habits :)

I've tried the shower but I end up leaning against the wall under the warm water for an hour. :p

You have it real bad, if I can just get stood up I'm fine and won't go back to sleep - I'm lousy at getting up but I can't imagine how sleepy you must be to struggle that much.

That won't help.

I'm always groggy the morning after... even if I've only had a couple of cans.

Definintely cut out the alcohol the night before :)
