Anyone else got a 2900XT and a similar spec to me (P5N-E SLi)

Hi.

Well, some of you may have seen me aorund the forums ranting about my **** performance, well, I'm trying to get down to the bottom of it, I can safely say its not Vista, so got rid of XP, back to Vista, so looking elsewere.

I'm wondering, has anyone else for a similar spec to me?

2900xt
3gb crucial ballistic ram
Asus P5N-E SLi
Sata WDC HDD

etc...

Would be happy if someone with a similar spec came forward, I need some help, like comparing rig performance.

BMW M3 Challenge, Vista laggy, crap frame rate in XP, Quake 4, 8xAA, Ultra settings, slight lag, same for Prey etc..

Every game runs crappy.

2900Pro 512MB Good for > 800Mhz so comparable to XT
Corsair HX 620
2x SATA - Main 250GB WDC, Slave 250GB Samsung

1280x1024 Syncmaster 913N

Recent games:
FEAR
BIOSHOCK
Quake 4
Oblivion

Only installed the card yesterday, seems fine in BIO and FEAR so far.

Post some results at 1280x1024 with Quake 4, 8xAA, 16xAF, Ultra settings if possible.

And you've done complete clean installs of XP/Vista?

If so, it sounds like a hardware problem. Shouldn't be getting anything that bad.

I have a very similar rig to you... only difference's are my cpu is @ 3ghz, 2 gb of ballistix and a 2900 Pro.

What do you need testing? Im running XP MCE if you need to know.

Will, your 3dmark scores seem pretty darn good, so can you narrow down precisely what you mean by 'crappy' performance please?

Aren't Prey and Quake 4 both OpenGL? I know Prey is and the 2900 XT has always had lower performance in OpenGL due to drivers than the 8800 series. But if you get "slight lag" in Quake 4 with 8xAA and Ultra settings, then it's probably to be expected mostly to the Ultra settings uncompressed textures, if you switched it back to Very High texture options then you'd probably not see any lag.

I have a P5N-E Sli and a 2900XT along with 2GB Geil RAM and a E6300 @ 3Ghz. Runs fine for me. Great performance in 3D06 and I've yet to find a game that slows down even on max settings.

My resolution is only 1280x1024 though.

What games do you have?

I had crappy performance in Oblivion.

What levels of AA do you use? I always like to use 8xAA+, games like UT2004 I can get away easilly with 24xAA.

I'm in Vista but when I tried XP gaming performance seemed the same.

Your rig is like.. almost the same lol apart from the hdd's, and proberbly case.
