Ikea appreciation.... Can you over do it?

I have the desk in the OP's first picture!

Although I dont use it anymore, just left there in the spare room!!!!

Oh and dont forget those BILLY bookcases :p

Isn't IKEA stuff generally just more expensive and overpriced versions of the crap one gets from MFI?

I like their products, but their service when I ordered online was dreadful to say the least.

3 weeks for initial delivery of my order, when it turns up the chest of drawers was broken, cue two more weeks for a replacement. Upon replacement I am told that he (the del. guy) doesn't have the papers to take away the broken unit, and they still have not taken away the broken unit.

[edit] The chest of drawers, and the desk/table I ordered:

my desk (from ikea) consists of a single 10 foot long piece of plywood 2 inches thick (20 layers of Ply), weighing over 40Kg supported by two joists at either end.

i can stand in the middle without it sagging. not all stuff from Ikea is LDF or MDF crap.

Some of the IKEA stuff is pretty good value, and a bit different, and normally much better thought out than MFI/Argos flatpack (the instructions tend to be clearer, and the bits actually fit together).
But some of it is pretty rubbish, and the CS isn't too hot, not to mention the fact something can be "in stock" on the online check, and "in stock" at the store, but in the warehouse across the road, so only available for home delivery - at a hefty charge (if it's not available for pick up at the store it shouldn't be classed as "in stock" at the store imo*).

I'm also not a fan of their "we've got 100 checkouts, but only 5 are open with queues running 20+ people deep" policy :p

I am however probably going to be popping round there again soon, they do a cable tidy thing that I suspect would be ideal under my computer desk when I get round to sorting my room out :)

*I was mildly annoyed about that, especially as a couple of months earlier the policy was if it was in the warehouse you paid in store and went over with the receipt.

I was reading the desk thread and someone mentioned making a "one piece of Ikea furniture" thread, however I can do one better (IMO)
A whole load of stuff from Ikea!

Have I over done it though?

Cinema room,
Desk, chair, footstool, side table and bin all Ikea.

Nothing wrong with that, looks good :)

Plenty happy with everything I've bought from ikea - desk, chair, drawers. All nicely functional and suitably sturdy.

Flat-pack stuff has come a long way but obviously for the money it isn't going to compare to pre-built solid wood furniture.

Ikea is great when you're on a budget. MFI don't keep stock in their stores any more, so you've got to add delivery to anything you're buying from them, plus they are a lot more expensive than they used to be.

I have two small sets of drawers from Ikea, and they're both really sturdy.

have ikea stopped doing the jerker desk i cant find it any more

There's one on a well known auction site no 230182264012 :D

If you look back to my Jerker, you'll notice the top shelf is silver.... they stopped doing it in the beech effect about two years ago :(

What's this about being crap quality !!

Not ONE bit of my furniture has let me down and I've had it a long time (a long long time)
One bulb has gone in downlighters in the Wardrobe but i have to dismantle the wardrobe to get it out as it's so close to the ceiling LOL (so it can stay broken)
