Hmmm, "rawness" isn't really what I'm talking about. I'd say my use of the GT analogy tainted my point slightly.
What I was aiming at is that people use a lot of sensory perception to decide what is happening. rattles and hums, oversteer, understeer, bumps, tramlining, wind noise and so on can all give the impression of something happening. It may not be to every body's taste, but it certainly gives the impresson that something is going on.
If you get out of such a car and then get into a supersmooth, quiet piece of machinery, you would lose that sensory input and may find the driving experience somewhat clinical and boring in comparrison. Some people like that and are happy to get rid of the annoying noise. Others miss the foibles. Maybe not "Oh, I miss that rattle, let me pull a wire loose" but in a more "something is missing" way.
Think of it like this. If a car rattles at 70mph, you always know your doing 70. When you reach 70, the rattle starts and you think, "eh up, I've hit 70!"
If nothing happens at 70, you don't know you're doing it. Sure, you can see it on the speedo, but it doesn't make you feel like you're doing anything exciting
