Naughty bad habits..

My main one - pulling out at junctions, going round tight bends or roundabouts with the backend coming out (on purpose). I love doing it, but it's so so stupid. I'm no driving god and obviously one of these days I'll screw up and spin the car or hit something.

Begs the question why on earth do it then mate?

Especially given the recent thread about the guy who ended up in jail after whacking a biker. - edit this one http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17794269

Whilst I'm no driving "God" I know I can drive to a better standard than many, that said, I'm extremely selective where & when I do such things, if at all.

I go to work in the early hours of the morning where there's no one about and it's clear, and besides it's fun. I take full responsibility for my actions. I ride a bike too so I know to look out for them - I like you am no "God" but have IMO more skill than the average commuter.

Is my bad habit any worse than tailgating, undertaking, etc? Besides in London it's the only thing I can do to give me a thrill - bar driving like a **** (which you have to to survive in London ;)).

I appreciate your words and advice, but like I said, it's very hard to behave myself. I'm even worse on 2 wheels.

The point of my thread was - you know it;s bad, but you keep doing it - like Telescopi, I calm down for a couple of days, and then it creeps back again. I just like to have fun. Then again I find hazardous activities fun, and I have little fear of injury or death so I need to get my thrills somewhere! :p

Fair enough mate, fair enough. ;):)

Depends on the car really, love getting the back end loose on the MR2 - squealing the tyres is fun!!! General commute in the Xedos - I enjoy nothing more than using the left hand lane of the A19 ti progress past all the sheep sat in the ouside doing 1mph more than the car 400 yards ahead in the left lane. Surprising how upset people get - I blow them a likkle kiss normally :P

As for RWD back-end out, when I had the Silvia for my stag do I managed to 'over-hoon' out of a junction and swap ends - local backlane so no harm done ut it surprised me!!!

Mine is probably a lot of queue jumping, but only on the roads which I know and do it at reasonable gaps in traffic.

Also roundabouts, I tend to 'explore' the grip in the dry.

Mine is probably knowing the lanes in town that wont have traffic then when a space shows up just nipping in there in the lane I need to be in, I dont do this often mind and only if there is a large space, if my plan doesnt work I take the other road home.

Another of mine is I am extremely horn happy, if someone annoys me or does something wrong im straight on the horn! I dont know why.

BTW! Freefaller! Your alive! Hows things matey? I got a new bike planned for the summer :) Watch this space :D

I'd love to be able to do that but I would imagine learning is difficult and the margin for error is particularly small.

Know any dead industrial estate car parks with no camera etc? Sounds a bit chavvy but just go when its wet and have a play for like 5 mins. Don't stay there long and you wont annoy people. Do you know the basics of controlling the car in a slide?

Pulling out of junctions and roundabouts - try to twitch the back a lot of the time. ;)

I would miss this so much if I got a FWD car.

My practical experience of controlling a car in a slide extends to playing GT4 and Forza and Karting only. It felt natural and easy to catch in a twin engined prokart, I suspect a car is quite different :p

Not massively, the e46 is very easy to play around with - I was happily carving out circles with one hand when I first tried it on an airfield. Will be the same with the e39 although with a petrol engine you'll need more revs.

Roundabouts, I just can't go round one at a normal speed, always have to see how far my grip lasts.

I sometimes find where my grip ends and stop doing it for a few days :)

Terribly guilty of this one too. Nothings more pleasing than hanging a roundabout in 2nd on 3 wheels then progressing swiftly up the nearest straight road.

My most mischevious habit whilst driving is to stick to the speed limit. I don't do it religously but when i do it seems to wind folk up judging by their faces and gestures when they overtake.

Oh not the best basis. Just go down to a open carpark and you cant go too wrong as long as you keep to the centre. Or goto a skid pan day, I did that and certainly helped a lot. I am lucky, can get the rear end out at 20mph in the wet. :o

i can get my escort diesel sideways on the brakes into a roundabout in rugby at about 70mph

i dont go above 70 in it (mpg ;) ) but i just dont brake and it handles quite well considering...

if i have someone right up my **** put it in first and hold the clutch in, hit the brakes hard so almost a standstill then boot it
