G15 - V1 vs V2

Can you use the macro buttons to select differnt weapons in css? Like when you click b you can have your favourte guns there. Can you set up a g key for that?

I own the V1 G15 and i wouldn't even consider the new one.

The original G15 is good for gaming but when it comes to typing it is one of the worst keyboards out there. I do like the media controls foremost. The G keys i can live without.

The lcd screen soon becomes a novelty but i suppose its better having one than not.

I cant help thinking of the cylons from battlestar galactica when i look at the V2.

i would guess so. Since you can bind the keys to a series of button presses, just set a macro as 'b *numbers*'
Or create favourites and do them like that.

I would keep my V1 over the v2, deffinately. The backlight especially, since the blue can blend more into the background, while the orange sticks out. Also, the fold down screen and twiddly volume spinner are better than the V2.
Don't mind about the V keys, since I rarely use them. And you still get 18 combos in the V2.

The V1 is the best keyboard ever made in my opinion and I'd never consider the V2. Everything that is fantastic about the V1 has been removed or changed in the V2.

The only features that would make me "upgrade" would be:

* Changeable backlight colour.
* Higher quality colour LCD, bigger if possible, with better game support.
* Keeps same number of keys and functions.

I base this on the three main keyboards i have owned. So just an opinion. A microsoft one, a saitek eclipse i own and this one.

On my V1, if you hit the keys just slightly off centre the are pushed down with a lot of friction. Its almost like the keys are attached to a rod with a small circumference so when you dont hit it dead on it tilts slightly causing in my experience a rocking motion and a poor action.

I just dont feel it is a great keyboard for those typing, which i do through certain forums, my website and sending email. Good for gaming it maybe but as an all rounder i feel Logitech have perhaps cut corners to meet with the extras this keyboard offers.

Just my 2 cents

G15 is a lot better than any Microsoft or Saitek keyboard for typing in my opinion. Don't have a problem with 'hitting them off center' - they feel the same no matter which part of they key you press. Guess you have a faulty one. :)

Yes I like typing with G15. Quite soft key presses and that. Took me a couple of days to learn to hit the right keys but it's been fine for me.

I also wrote an app in C# for the LCD for trackmania united which was good :D

Also the enter key on mine isn't one of those weird squashed ones as pictured. I'm guessing that's to do with being the american layout?

I prefer my v1. The blue lighting goes with my other stuff here :p

The speakers console is blue, lcd poster for mobo has blue, water cooling and fans in case have blue, mouse has blue, even TFT power on is blue.....damn, blue everywhere :D

I wouldn't let that put you off, I'd say about 75% of the time my keyboard is used for typing and I dont have one grievance with it.

Without doubt the best keyboard I've ever used or owned for both gaming and day to day use.

As i said it is just my opinion.

I have to say when something becomes faulty it is generally at a specific point or area. My analysis is with regards the general feeling of the keys and there actions. I dont believe that my keyboard has any faults whatsoever.

My opinion on these is that whilst it does its job and offers perhaps more than any other in its class it is squarely aimed at gamers.

This was the reason i bought the keyboard also. That and the features found no where else. I am just saying that when your not gaming which in my scenario is often you sometimes see why it is aimed at the gaming community.

Whether there is a better alternative out there, i do not know. Perhaps Logitech have changed the board completely?. I doubt it. Its nothing but a change of clothing in my opinion. Unless your rig is kitted out with red/orange lights i can not see why anyone would want to change from a version 1 to 2.

I had the V1 and hated it and sold it on the bay - I went back to using a cheap, small Dell multimedia keyboard. . . . I can't fault it

i found the keyboards world apart when it came to typing.
microsoft ive had 2 which i could type on fairly fast with little errors(in the dark).
much harder to do on the g15.
macro's are pretty good but ive uninstalled the logitech software as i didnt like the performance hit in games.

What performance hit? Even if there was one, it would be 0.05 FPS
