Poker ethics question

In a casino I'd take any edge I can get. in a friendly game I'd own up and redistribute chips.

If you burn it and continue it affects your odds and gives the other player an unfair advantage.

was pub league game so somewhere in the middle

as you say owning up would have put me at a disadvantage

If it was a game with friends, own up - bum hand, take out the chips, start again.

If it was a tourny game, tell the ref, tell him you knwo the next card is, let him decide what to do.

Personaly id have told i had seen the card and asked for the river card to be burnt and then play the hand twice.

That means you burn the card you have seen. Play the next one. then burn the next card, and play another one, that way its either going to be a split pot, or one of you wins 2-0. its a fairer way of doing it as when you use people as dealers, mistakes happen.

Then again, i like playing cards, i dont like cheating even if it isnt my fault, spoils the game for me.

Just read my post - IN NO TERMS OR WAYS AM I SAYING ROTTY CHEATED, please dont come and get me ROTTY.....

Still puts Rotty at a disadvantage through no fault of his own.

well, he gets two bites at the pot, instead of one and knowing he cant lose. gives both players left in a fair chance.

Again, depends what they are playing for and if they are mates really, but end of the day, id have to tell someone as id feel i was cheating the other guy. Unless the other guy was a complete spoon and had been winding me up all night at the table...

Except it gives Rotty a worse chance than before (through no fault of his own) he saw the card in question.

that is just making rules up as you go along though and would set a dodgy precedent

True, guess only Rotty can make the call then depending on how he felt, if he liked the guy, was it a freindly game or a money game ect.

Im sure he did what he felt was best.

but the guy hasnt commited everything untill the turn, the river is then half dealt in error and retracted.

pot is about 8k after turn, me and one other left in

other player goes all in for 4k and is obviously ahead

the OP then sees that he'd hit his flush and thus calls. Makes an easy decision when you know that you're gonna hit ;)
I have nut flush draw, nut straight draw and 2 overcards so probably have pot odds, I suppose there was always the option of the board pairing to give him a full boat

as I am thinking it over the dealer goes to deal the river, someone pulls him up before he turns it over but I catch a glimpse and am almost certain it is a club to give me the flush
The guy had already gone all in before the dealer turned the last card. So the other player HAD committed, it was Rotty who was thinking it over. So the other player had already committed his chips regardless.
Which is what I said.

Its also what he said, so I don't get his point.

I'd have played on personally. I'd do the same regardless of the level I was playing at, although I always play for money, if only a little at times.

I'm sure others will have taken advantage of such a situation against me in the past, so I have no problem with it. I'm always very careful when dealing myself, so my conscience is clear.
