Metroid Prime 3

I got this at the weekend as i fancied something different over playing a pc or a 360 game for a change.

I really have got into it now but it took me awhile to get used to the style of gameplay where you have a few puzzles to work out aswell as blasting stuff.

I have to say on my samsung 32" hdtv through component @480p it does look very good for a wii game but have had to put some time into it to get into it as some of the earlier puzzles were doing my head in abit.

Overall very good game which i think i will be playing through till its finished.

Brilliant boss battles and for a change it runs @60fps which always gives a game an extra level of gloss and smoothness i think.:)

I havnt been on it anymore, but after a faff round a mates, it appears that i was playing in advanced control mode anyway! :p.

'Normal' mode plays like MP1 & 2, where the lock on controls what your aiming/shooting at.
'Advanced' allows you to shoot anywhere.

as for the family thing Id say that the wii is the first console to truly break he demographic of games players (if you dont count the DS). But in kree's defence the NES is called the 'family computer' in Japan. Whether it was or not is up for debate. All I know is my mum would never have played a game soo willingl before I put wii sports in front of her.

As for MP3 the game is great, its a solid adventure and has some truly great moments. The story is solid and I would say its on a par with MP1. It controls great, and the graphics are better than the cube versions, there is a comparison on gamespot. As for using the zapper, I dont think that would work as if memory seves the nunchuk is used for grappling.

The only games my parents have ever played have been wii sports, tetris and mario bros.

SPOILER, SPOILER. SPOILER, SPOILER,SPOILER!!!!

In MP3, on the first level Samus gets swiped by a crazy dragon and is dragged down the tunnel. What are you expected to do. i spent over 20 minutes redoing this to no avail (and I don't have much time to redo part of the games). You seem to have basically no control and can just take pot shots at the dragon. A few minutes later you hit the bottom and die...

Shoot it ??

Usually in the part that glows just before it hits you.

Wow so I'm playing on veteran mode first time and I got to a certain ice fight - Took me about 50 goes to do it but I'm sooooo glad I got there. The stress in the boss fights is just amazing - So well designed.

To me so far this is classic metroid.

We know, you haven't provided any suitable counter proof either.

Do I really need to? There are no substantial articles on how families gathered around to play on (S)NES consoles. They were just like every other console, aimed directly at teens. Your extremely minor anecdotal examples (my mother once played on mario and tetris!1111) are hardly gospel.

I am in no way disputing the NES consoles were one of the most popular in history, but they were _nothing_ like the Wii in terms of audience and reach. I don't need to try and prove this because it's the general and entire consensus that it's a typical console just like the Mega Drive was, like the Playstation was. There was nothing to differentate it from the rest that would make it a 'family' computer. By your logic all the other consoles are family computers too then.

Not to wade in to your little spat, but you're wrong there KNiVES, plain wrong.

The NES was never marketed to teens like the PSX/MD. Thanks to the failure of Atari and the general American console market shortly before it came out, Nintendo wanted the NES to stand out, and not be considered "yet another console". So they marketed it as a kid's toy to some extent, certainly not a teen console. Hence the bright, plastic look, the colourful games, and the fancy attachments (light gun, ROB). It pretended to be a semi-educational device, and as such, you could argue that any good parent would play a bit with their kids to help them out. Especially since it was a bit complex for a "toy".

The whole point of the PSX/Mega Drive teen-based marketing was that it was explicitly an anti-Nintendo, "Oh look at how much more mature (no irony here guv, honest) we are than kiddy Nintendo" stance. You can't have that angle if Nintendo were already preaching to the same market, the same way. And of course, for Sega it largely succeeded (over here anyway), while for Sony, it made them.

You are pretty much agreeing with my notion that it's not really a console that anyone other than little kids will pick up and play by themselves.

In fact, you seemed to have implied especially by the

that the NES was indeed just for little kids ! You kinda defeated yourself there. You have proved my point exactly - that unlike the Wii, the NES wasn't really suited to cater to anyone other than kids, or even teens. The 'oh it was a family's console because the parents had to help the wee kids out' is completely different to the Wii's massive target range and audience, and as such, doesn't really wash with me I'm afraid.

Erm, what? I'm not Kreeee. I'm not saying the NES was specifically a family console. I'm arguing that it wasn't aimed at teens. Because it wasn't.

EDITED for clarity:

You said:

I said:

And then:
You could argue that any good parent would play a bit with their kids to help them out.

I can't really tell if you're putting words into my mouth, or just changing your stated point completely, but it's confusing.

The PlayStation wasn't aimed at teens either, AFAIK.

I agree with Weebull on some points, but I believe the (S)NES to be aimed at 'the whole family', in that the games, although not necessary separately catering for wide audience, each game was supposed to be playable by kids, teens and adults. The NES was certainly the last console my dad every really invested any time in. Even the SNES got too complicated (buttons-wise) for my dad to be truly interested.

Although I don't believe the Wii to be any different (in that it's suitable for the whole family), I agree that it actually has the wider appeal that the (S)NES lacked.

So much for general consensus.

Nintendo have always aimed at a much broader market than their competition with very accessible games for a wide range of ages. The Wii just continues this idea.

In Europe it definitely was as their adverts were definitely aimed to make the console "cool" for teenagers. I can't say about other regions though.

I think so too. The Wii is just better at it. I always think about my dad (who certainly isn't old at 45 - I'm 23) who couldn't hack the analogue stick or shoulder buttons... he struggled with the 4 buttons on the face of the SNES pad! Took him a long time to get any good at ISS 64/98.

Possibly, my knowledge of the PS launch was that it was a more 'adult' (perhaps later teens?) console than the Mega Drive, which was in turn seen as the cooler console than the SNES. I was only 11 at the time though!

this game gets better the further in you get, was a little bored at the start.
Definatelly.
Ive had time this weekend to do Elysia, and land in its seed.
Very cinamatic at times. Its well polished.
Elysia is great fun though. Its like roaming around Bespin! lol.
