Metroid Prime 3

Being a massive Metroid Prime fan I had two main concerns about Corruption - firstly that the controls would blow (ala Red Steel) and that the game would be dumbed down into an action fps. Control wise, after switching to advanced, I couldn't be happier - by far the best first person implementation on the Wii. Gameplay wise I found the entire first level to be complete and utter toilet. It couldn't have been less ' Metroidy' - infact it played like a rubbish Halo. Without a doubt this was my biggest wtf moment of this generation - no sense of exploration, run and gun, people all about, rubbish dialogue, and it looked crap.

Still, I ventured on and soon got to the first planet, and suddenly it's Metroid Prime again, just with a superior, more suitable control method. Aesthetically it's stunning - very little on the 360 or PS3 has impressed me as much - and it feels like i'm trespassing on an ancient alien planet. Attention to detail, consistency - it's as convincing as ever. Action has taken a back seat and the sense of discovery that has always made Metroid truly great is back, a complete u-turn. So now i'm exploring, all alone, and it's very cool. If the game continues in this vein it will be awesome.

Whats the advanced control mode?

I swapped A & B, and it makes a heck of a difference in game. Shooting is more 'natural' now.

The cutscenes are fantastic, comparable to some xbox360 graphics in my opinion, i wont tell any spolilers but intro's the the bosses are really fantastic.

Whats the advanced control mode?

I might be wrong here, but I don't think I am.

There are 3 levels of sensitivity, but you can be advanced with any of them.
Basically, with advanced you can lock on to an enemy so you are always looking at them, but you still have free reign to move the cursor around the screen and shoot what you want.
If its not advanced, your cursor is locked onto the enemy and you HAVE to shoot only them.

Hmm.
Not sure what mode im in, i know that if i lock on i can still shoot most things on the screen.

Ive done first proper boss and got the ship upgrade.
Its definatelly getting better. Starting to feel more Metroid like, and im getting more used to the controls.
Some graphical bits here and there have also impressed me.

I think free aiming can be toggled in any mode - I much prefer it on - but advanced is the most sensitive. Aiming behaves more like using a mouse - the screen moves as you move the Wiimote, rather than a big dead zone Red Steel stylee. It feels more responsive and makes navigating around levels and looking around/aiming easier (for me anyways). I couldn't go back to the standard mode.

Got this today for the bargin price of less than 27 english pounds from a large toy store, only problem is i'm at my parents this weekend so can't play it till tuesday when i get home. Can't wait after reading this thread.

Advanced means that when you move the wiimote the whole screen moves while default means that it acts like a light gun near the centre of the screen and then a mouse as you get to the edge of the screen.

thinking of bagging this for myself just got a wii and dunno what too buy.
Why not, everything I've heard about this game is good so far (not played it myself yet due to Real Life stuff taking priority :(). Otherwise, have you thought about getting Resi Evil 4, Mario Strikers Charged or Super Paper Mario?

Later this month we'll see Guitar Hero 3, and next month sees Mario Galaxy too.

And Zelda.

The lack of posts in this thread compared to other games really does show that Wii gaming is seriously neglected :(

The problem for me is that Metroid 3 was released in the US a few weeks ago and got quite a lot of coverage then, even getting some threads on this forum and a good amount of discussion and interest / excitement generated generally. The release of Metroid 3 in the UK seems a bit of an anti-climax for me as I have already seen and read a few reviews and haven't thought of it as a new game for a while now. My disappointment with the later UK release date is kinda overshadowing the excitement I might've felt for the game as it doesn't seem that new or exciting anymore to me.

Compare this thread to Halo 3 or Warhawk or Crysis, all the most popular games on their respective platforms, they are buzzing with posts but Metroid Prime 3 isn't. I think it's just a lack of buildup to the European release, it's a shame really because despite its flaws MP3 really does deserve a bit more attention. I'm blaming this squarely on Nintendo's lacklustre global strategy and a complete lack of marketing. They just want to sell their kiddy fad waggly games and not focus on what made them Nintendo in the first place.

I will bet my bottom dollar that the next iteration of WiiSports and the WiiFit will get far more attention from the Nintendo marketing and release department than Super Mario Galaxy.
