Drake's Fortune demo on PAL PS3s

Latest news on demo,

UK, November 9, 2007 - Sony Europe has confirmed that a playable demo of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, released on the US PSN Store yesterday, will hit UK PS3s on November 22.

European PS3 owners have been disappointed to discover that the US demo of the Naughty Dog's much-anticipated jungle adventure is region locked, meaning those with US PSN accounts on their UK PS3s are unable to play. While Sony's US network regularly gets content ahead of its European equivalents, the company's open attitude to region coding with the PS3 has meant players have previously been able to download content from the US store without issue.

Worry no more though, Sony has since confirmed to IGN that UK PS3 owners only have a couple of weeks left to wait before getting a taste of the game. The 1.2GB demo will be available on the November, still well ahead of the game's December 2 release date.

Think they mean December 7th, any way i guess this is 2 weeks before release (like the US one).

Exactly. Once again Sony gives the finger to the European market. Not impressed.
What I don't understand is why they feel the need to localize demo's and videos, I don't care if the language is English/American, I don't want a demo in Dutch language, I can understand English just fine so why not put the English demo's on the PSN and put localized ones up when they are done

Ive noticed with the demos in the PS store is that if a game is released 2 weeks or so earlier in the US then they get the Demo 2 weeks before us. I guess its a marketing thing, possibly they think a month between demo and game is to long to keep customers interestead before they go off after the next big thing, and they think that 2 weeks is the optimal time to keep it fresh in customers mind. Heavenly Sword was released the same week here as US and we got demo the same time, think we had Dirt before the US store as Dirt was out here first etc. Not that I agree with it, but this seems to be a logical reason to why they do this and not some they hate europe type thing.

So what's PES's excuse ?

Not sure what you mean about PES? I didnt think it was on the US store before us? Or are you refering to why it was on xbox live several weeks before it was on the PSN UK store? To have my sensible head on i would say that Konami made such a mess of PES on the PS3 they knew releasing a demo that was buggy would damaged sales. I would have thought that many PS3 owners (and others console owners) would have brought PES just beacuse its PES, and having a demo that crashes and has framerate issues would possibly make them look elsewhere for there footy fun.

Even Sony must realize that if they make the games region free that people in the EU will buy the game from the US so that they want to play the game from the US PSN

Couple of things to remember here

1. don't go shouting at Sony its not their fault - even though I don't like the way they treat europeans in general, this was released by naughty dog not sony.
2. we (europe) were not supposed to get this demo, it was released on the US PSN not the EU PSN - If they meant us to get it they would have released it on EU PSN also - If it was released on EU PSN and it didnt work i'd be really annoyed.

3. If they did not want the EU folks to play it why don't they mention it in the release notes you see before downloading or give us a message when you start the demo that it will not run on EU/Jap consoles?

Why should they? It's on the US store, they shouldn't have to mention jack about the EU version.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Demo Back on the World Map

+ Posted by Christophe Balestra // Co-President Naughty Dog

Christophe Balestra, here, and I’m Co-President at Naughty Dog. I wanted to give a final update on the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune demo situation.

We’re really sorry about what happened and didn’t anticipate this at all. We just didn’t know people from other territories could connect to the US PLAYSTATION Network Store and download demos … now we do! We’ve been too busy working on the game to wrap our head’s around the infrastructure of the PSN.

We absolutely did not plan the demo to be region locked. As soon as we figured out the problem existed, Sam Thompson called me and I jumped into my car, drove to the office and fixed it right away. It’s an honest mistake and we didn’t try to prevent anybody from enjoying the Uncharted demo. I feel even more sorry because most of the people who experienced the problem are in Europe and I’m European myself.

So again, we’re really sorry about what happened and it wasn’t done on purpose. The good news is it’s now fixed and a new demo of Uncharted has been posted to the US PLAYSTATION Network Store so the entire world can enjoy it.

Thanks to Sam for taking the heat yesterday and for letting us know about the issue.

It Works. Delete you demo and download it again from the US PS Store. I installed mine and tested it, all OK, am off to bed.

Just had a quick go on the demo, seems decent enough. Will still probably get it.

Camera isn't great though and the shooting is a little weak. As long as it's primarily an adventure game, just with some action elements, I can see myself playing through it.
