Just a reminder that as with any new line launch, penetration pricing (no sniggering at the back) probably applies here so if anyone thinks the cards are dear, its because demand is high at launch and so are the prices to reflect this.

i just wanna say something, some of u may or may not know i am a ati guy i really do hope the 38x0 series is much better in performance wise.. but what i've seen so far it doesn't look good, that why i been saying its similar to a 2900xt performance wise but slightly faster. but not enough to upgrade from 2900 to 3870 in performance, this doesn't mean i am a nvidia fanboy that some of u guys said//thinking, i won't say who.. ive never had a nvidia card.

as for price and low power and low heat it's great. but for the people that doesn't mind about the power and heat, it isn't worth the upgrade if u already have a 2900..

Do these cards allow LCMP via the DVI -> HDMI adapter?

The good thing about ATI is that they seem to have implemented sound via DVI rather than the reseller just slapping on some SPFID passthrough. SPFID can't do HD sound.

My 7900GTX is showing its age and I need something to keep me going until the 8900GTX so a card that will work better in my media centre after it leaves my main rig is a plus.

I dunno though, i can't see them falling in price that much, as the 3000 series are in ample supply now, the GT's only high in price as you can't get them anywhere, so when the GT's start flowing, then we know their prices will fall, as we know were only paying a high premium price now due to places only having about 1-2 of them in, and the GT's were supposed to be around £130-£150, so i can't see the 38's dropping that low, as they are already flowing in good numbers now, everywheres got loads of stocks of em in now ready for the off on Thursday, so your not going to be paying a high premium price like you are for a GT from the off as you can get them.

They arent OUT yet, how the hell can you try and tell us anything about what will happen with prices!

ATI will keep to the price/performance curve IMO, or they wont sell and cards, thats simple.
 
reports have stated that ATI have shipped 250k 38xx cards for launch this week with another 150k by the end of the year - versus NVIDIA's 40k GT's on launch.

so i'd agree with loadsamoney, it's highly unlikely prices will trend downwards anytime soon.

please get the people that "have these cards" to post some bench marks and overclocking results, cause im pretty sure if someone has them early they'd be bragging left right and centre, even gibbo can hardly contain the secrets!
 
Thing is, though, the 3850 has already gone down in price. I put it in my basket yesterday, it was £123, it's now £117. While it isn't displayed, the current price is still displayed to me through my basket somehow. Not sure why.
