Howdy,
My brand new Logitech Z-5500 system arrived on Wed this week so I plugged it all in like is said in the manual, turned it on and it worked fine. Yesterday I used it for a short period of time for some CoD4 and when I went to turn it on today there was no life from it. I have checked the fuse on the plug and even changed the cable to see if that made any difference but it still doesnt work. I dont have a multimeter here so I cant check the fuse in the actual system.

When I switch them on at the back on the sub which is the main power button Im supposed to see a red ring around the power button on the controller unit but it stays unlit and I cant turn it on. Has any1 else experienced a similar event? What should I do?

Regards,

Schnippzle

I had a similar problem a few months ago. I thought mine were dead, and was just about to send them back, when I was told about a fuse in the Sub Woofer. I couldn't see if the fuse was dead, so I just got a new one for 20p, and replaced it. Job done. Might be worth checking out before you RMA them :)

My firs set of z5500 were fine for years but had the radio interference problem so i swapped em. The new set blew a fuse after a few days when I switched them back on one day (I switch them off by the sub at night due to the bassy humming the sub it emits with power connected). Bought ten 2A slow blow fuses from ebay for less than a pound which work perfectly. Have only had to swap the one that came with the set, no more blown since. Probably just a dodgy set of fuses in them, which whilst is a pain in the ass is more than worth it as the z5500 are great.

When my fuse blew I replaced the fuse with a 5A Glass Fuse, been working fine ever since, even when thrashing the system its been fine too.

the sub woofer blowing is a common problem, my mate sent his back 4 times before he realised

Oddly mine have been running 2 years now without a single issue...

*touches wood*

My first set of Z5500's died, front channels went and weird stuff happened, second set has been going fine, the best thing to do is NEVER switch the system off by the switch on the back of the sub.

True. My Decoder really is fubar though! On direct connections it gets hot and sound stutters unless I switch on an 80 mm fan i've had to attach to it :|

Check the PID number, ever different PID number comes a different problem, my PID is R638 and half of the LCD Screen is abit darker and also flickers, known problem with other people having it.

There is sets with a different PID that seem to be known for an extreamly crappy sounding sub weirdly enough, there is too many problems tbh and Logitech either need to get there quality control standards up a notch of make a new better set.

Replacing the fuse with a much higher one is stupid thing to do, it's there to protect from electrical fire in case of a electrical failure.

Seems like the Log are pretty low quality, and you've been arguing with me for yonks why seperates are better?

I've got the newer version of these speakers and they're pretty good. No idea why other people have been having worse problems? Maybe the older batches aren't as good?

I've been using the fuse for nearly 6 months and nothing has gone wrong...

Its a fuse I dont see why the hell you feel the need to flame me for using a 5A fuse  I never leave the speakers on when I'm out of when I'm asleep.

I know seperates are better, but the drivers in the Z5500 I dont think are low quality, the 3" drivers are very popular and over at DIY Audio people have been doing projects with them, the 10" driver aint the best, but you cant ask for much in a 5.1 system for £150-£200 and it'll take on most All in one systems. They are cheap compared to your 2.1k system yes, but not everyone can afford a 2.1K 5.1 surround sound, hell even some people cant afford the Z5500's.

Because what you're doing is irresponsable and possibly dangerous. Has Logitech confirmed it's safe to use a 5A fuse?
