F1 2007/2008 Winter Testing and Rumours

GOD ALMIGHTY. This is getting rather annoying now! We'll have to wait another 2/3 weeks whilst the rumour-mill keeps churning on and on and on and on and on... until Alonso confirms who he's driving for in 2008

At this rate, ParcelForce :D

Couple of changes to the first post in the thread:

Removed Heikki K from the Renault seat due to him not having a 2008 contract
Added a list of launch dates for 2008 cars

Webber is good. In fact I would definitely place him in the top 8. The problem is that he has incredibly bad luck, in that his car always seems to break down.

Bottom 8 imo.

His car always seems to break down? well he's the one in the driving seat, perhaps he's a little too hard on it.....

Most of his moaning is usually about the fact that his car is slow or his car keeps breaking down. The only time I felt where his moaning was not justified is when he accused Hamilton of weaving behind the safety car, in the wet.

Has he moaned about anything else?

Yes (scrabbles for back issue of Autosport)

How can you be too hard on a rev limited engine, that wont change gear unless the ECU says it's ok. That wont let you downshift incorrectly.

The revs are wound back to make these cars more reliable than they used to be. I doubt a driver can drive them too hard.

I think webbers a nice guy, but then I would he sent me a good luck message on my wedding day :D

I've lost faith in Webber as well. He moans too much too.

Indeed. He was fine driving for Minardi, and I was seriously chuffed at the point in Melbourne, but since then, all he's done is drive bad cars and whinge a lot. Put him in a good car and see what he can do, by all means, but I wouldn't back him.

I don't like Webber really, loved his Aus Minardi drive though! It's purely because he always seem to be in a mood... Due to him being hideously unlucky, I can't say I blame him. He always seems to have something wrong with his car, even if it's working there'll be something else going wrong.
Remember that time in the Jaguar his race seat was super-heating and he pulled out with a burning arse... Now that's unlucky! :D

Comedy news item of the week

Ralf makes pitch for McLaren seat

Ralf Schumacher has revealed his ambition to fill the empty McLaren seat vacated by double world champion Fernando Alonso.

The 32-year-old German is still searching for a drive in 2008 after leaving Toyota by mutual consent at the end of last season.

"It's no secret that the seat at McLaren-Mercedes is by far the most coveted there is," the former race-winner told Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

"Every driver out there in the market would love to sit in their super car."

Schumacher, the younger brother of seven-time champion Michael also told the newspaper that while he hadn't had any contact with McLaren, he believed he still had what it takes to run at the front despite not having won a grand prix since 2003.

There was an article on Autosport's website a few weeks back saying he'd approached McLaren but they'd said he "wasn't on our shortlist". No doubt McLaren had a good laugh about that one - Ralf is the most undeserving driver in F1 and needs to be kicked out on his ear. A total journeyman who only puts in any effort when it suits him and has a far far too high opinion of himself and his abilities. The highpoint of my year was when Matt Bishop (ex F1 Racing editor and now joining McLaren) told him to "**** Off" :D

If I was Ron Dennis and in a position of Ralf or no driver at all - I'd go with the latter. Cracked me up start of last season where he rated himself in the top 3 drivers. Crazy.
