Mario Galaxy - Official Thread

well completed it last night only getting 61 stars.

amazing game kinda rushed into it as want to get COD4 and Assassins creed :p. Already sold Galaxy, might buy it again when it's cheap though just to get the extra stars.

Dude! That's not completing it, that's half the stars!

Up to 94 stars. Some of the comets are troublesome! Fighting the rock thing boss with one life is doing my head in.

There's still a few levels I'm not sold on though. I pretty much skipped through quite a few when more started to open up - I've done the first star on about 6-7 galaxies, and no more after that.
This is the best way to do it if you want to get 120 stars. beat the game and then go back and get the rest of the easier stars whilst interspersing them with some of the other tasks that might be a bit more troublesome and/or annoying.

Such a good game :)

Can you beat the game and go back and get the rest ?
I've been holding off finishing the game and am currently on 104 stars. :)

Dusty Dunes is pretty fun too, and the speedy comet on that is enjoyably difficult. Was trying to do the second ball level (from the green star) earlier, and that looked like a pain too.

What's the problem on the DD speedy comet star? The trial galaxy ball run is not as hard as it looks, did it second go. Just a matter of going sloooow as there's not time limit.

Did the opposite to this. Completed every level to 5 stars as it came, and consequently opened the path to Bowser's galaxy and the garden rather early on. I find this more enjoyable as it helps get immersed into the level.

It sounds silly, but I like the harder levels. I like the frustration of not quite being able to get the star a few times, and swearing like a trooper every time I mess up. It makes it the more satisfying when I actually complete it.

Exactly, although it's not too difficult some sections have had me cursing like a madman, and then thrusting at the TV upon completion. Sign of a good game!

I don't see why people would buy a Mario game and not get all the stars. Does not compute. It's effectively a waste of money - it's not like getting, say, 100% secret areas in a Quake game, because every star is different and takes some figuring out, greatly increasing the game's longevity.

Pretty sure you can. In fact supposedly after getting all the stars you can redo the final bowser level and when completing it get to play through the whole game as Luigi. You then get a bonus level to get an extra star.

I think I just got frustrated with the second ball level as I was trying to do it fairly quickly this morning. I did the first one, er, first time, and as you say, it's just about going carefully really.

I just thought the DD speedy comet was quite nicely timed to make you run out near the end. That and rushing made me fall into the quicksand of death repeatedly.

Fair enough. I just found some of the levels (like the water ring one) didn't click with me as quickly as the more exciting "weeeee space and flying" ones.

That's a good point, a fair few of the levels are disappointingly unmemorable in the later stages. :(

I realise this is late, but I've been taking my time through the game, but I just felt the need to say:

Anyone who stopped playing the game after getting the princess is a damned fool.

The best part of the game is the later stages and some of the purple coin challenges. Luigi's is a git.

Got 120 stars last night. Can't imagine me having the patience to go through it again with Luigi. He skids everywhere and it'll be a challenge on some levels.

Some of the purple coin challenges were a *****!

I got 97 stars and can't say any of the purple coin challenges I did took more than 3 attempts.
