The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Hey everyone, thinking of reactivating but I quite after 3 weeks because I had nothing to do, do you guys have a Corp I could join?

I'm up for anything, just need some people to it with/teach me.

I've just resubbed as a new char (Caldari) and just applied to join the OcUK Corp. If you fancy playing I should be on tonight and tomorrow night. Happy to help out, I owe my thanks to JC last night for giving me advice on some decent "recent" ship fittings as i last played in 2006.

For Black Ops requirements:

actually, the black ops requirements for cloaking dropped to level 4. :)

to everyone, but especially the new guys, remember to set a long skill going to cover the patch day, and a bit extra in case there are any problems. (set it on the 4th)

So i started playing, as the guys in the OcUK channel know.. but it's just so damn complicated! I'm still deciding wether it's worth me investing the time to learn it. I mean it has an ingame calculator and notepad for doing maths. I dont want to do maths! I want to build big ships and blow people up!

I guess it's about finding that line between casual (no maths) and hardcore (excel with graphics).

At the moment I'm moving my skills towards Caldari Frigate 4 according to the mining guide on the EVE official forums, since I've got more of a miner setup. Lost a basic ship yesterday in a mission due to noobing my shields and not paying attention to the game but got plenty of cash at the moment so it's not a problem (yes I had insurance ;) ).

Seems simple enough for mining/blueprint construction so I think I just need to watch for getting some of the rarer minerals later on. I take it the rarer ores are found in 0.5 - 0.8 belts? The 0.9 and 1.0 systems seem to be cleared out a lot whenever I seem to find an "interesting" ore like Pyroxeres. Think I might concentrate on Scordite at the moment for some quick cash since it's easier to find and profitible enough so far.

Yup, should be more ore in lower sec. But also there will be rats and risk of other players :)

I think, rather than trying to learn everything before you do it, just jump in with building simple things like ammunition for starters to get to know the ropes, then move onto more complicated stuff and picking it up as you go along.

But yes, a successful builder needs maths, thankfully a lot of the maths is done for you like amount of minerals required per item, the bulk stuff u need to work out yourself, as well as sourcing the best prices for minerals, or whether you want to buy ore and refine it yourself.

Ok. well i'll finish the 14 day trial and see how i feel. I'm just learning about mining and refining so i guess i'm moving along.

Is there perhaps an alternative if it doesn't work out for me? Would X3 be a better game for my needs?

carrier peeps, make sure you take out all ships from maint bays before the patch

Capital and Capital Industrial class ships (Carriers, Motherships, Titans and Rorquals) will need to have ships removed from their ship maintenance arrays before the deployment of EVE: Trinity. Leaving anything other than ammunition or cap booster charges in the array may result in the ship not being able to move, warp or jump.

You don't really need to concentrate on the maths unless your doing large scale production or are anal about maximizing every isk. T1 ships and mods are pretty easy to work out, just make sure your selling for more than your producing stuff for :)

Evemeep helps with the managment of largers operations

If your mining in 0.5 then 3 people using mining cruisers with a decent tank and drones can easily handle all the rats in the belts. 0.4-0.0 is a whole different ballgame. Unless things have changed recently then when i left veld and scordite were actually very worthwhile ores for making isk due to the sheer amoun ts needed. I guess with the patch and new ships they'll spike up again.

Almost decided to come back, few questions.

You can only access your character page on the website if you have an active sub, right? Need to check which account had my best character on.

Is it worth starting again? I can't remember much about my character, probably screwed it up.

Edit: What's the cheapest place to get subscription from? (Don't mind if it's a 3 month time card)
