Still need brake pads..

BMw police spec pads

dont know the part no tho unfortunately ask your friendly parts person at the local stealer

i cant remember if i replied to this in a different thread but whats wrong with the current ones?

Nothing except for comical levels of brake dust (Apparently German TUV regulations stipulate they must be graphite?).

However I thought since they were near £80, I should see what else is around for the money thats better, or obtain the same performance for less.

I spent a bit of money recently on a full set of EBC OEM pads for my car because I foolishly acknowledged my old man's friend who owns a garage that my pads were "too low".

Pads arrived and ready to fit.

Turns out my pads were not low at all and all 4 have loads of life left!

Ah well, thought I'd share this random story....anyone need any e46 pads? :p

I might just have them swapped during next months brake fluid service just to have less brake dust, bmw ones are so dusty :|

Sensors for a pair are £10 off ebay, least that's what I paid for them (genuine bmw ones) as mine were faulty (randomly coming on and off weekly)

As I said last time you asked this question.

I can highly recommend Hawk performance ceramic pads.
They are the best thing since sliced bread, virtually no dust, no noise, instant grip from cold and they last longer and feel better than ANY other brake pad I have ever seen.
Check here for more details, English distributor is here.

I had a set on the Porsche for nearly three years and they did over 40,000 miles.
I did track days and a couple of sprints and an autotest with them fitted, every time the pads were super grippy from cold and I never had any sign of fade whatsoever.

Dust levels were non-existent, what there was would wash of with a hose no scrubbing needed.

As for noise, a very quiet quiet thing, would be noisier than these pads.

If I ever get a performance car again I will get these pads no question.

£80?
More like 40+tax, you can get jurid pads from GSF or any local motor factor.

out of interest these sensors that need replacing if the light comes on, would most highstreet garages know this i.e. kwiktits and the like?

Kwik Fit won't change your sensors, they won't touch anything on your brakes either without doing a full brake checkup (which is free) , I got mine swapped at a local independent garage (non bmw authorised, just a local place) who charged for half hours cheap labour to replace both sensors. I provided them with the sensors, they did the swap.

You can swap them yourself too with a bit of a fiddle - I needed to raise my car up but the microjack bmw bundle i pants and dug into the ground when the car was raised so for safety reasons I just got it done locally.

Okay, thank you. What do BMW charge to replace a set off pads?

With my E60 I got my mechanic to change the sensors along with the pads, but the setting on the I-Drive still stayed at 7000 miles (that's how much was left on the old pads). Was a bit miffed at that, but I just decided to leave it alone (now showing 4600 miles left) - I'll just add another 3-4k to the service indicator once the warning light starts showing. What I'm saying is that there seemed to be no point in me spending 12 quid on a new sensor when the interval thing never changed
