So I was talking to a bloke . . . who knows a bloke . . . that works for AMD . . :D

He was mentioning a new Radeon part coming soon called HD3890 which impressed me because I spend far to much time reading these forums and never heard a sniff about that! :o

Anyone heard any news about this? . . . or have I made a pea-roast

Indeed it is a HD 3870 X2 type affair. The name has not been decided yet, officially at least.

I'm 99.99% sure 3890 is just another name for the 3870x2 (R680). I don't think either name is fully official as of yet.

Oooo - if ATi could get their drivers going they really could show off some outrageously powerful stuff - Imagine 4x3890s in Crossfire-x? Now that really would make the Matrox TripleHead2Go worth a look on 3x30" Dells (if Matrox likewise pulled their thumbs out!) ;) - Certainly give Spider the edge in the graphics department - AMD would love that!

From all reports, the 3890 or whatever it's called won't work in 4-card configs. The (physical) limit is four GPUs at this point.

Still regardless it would be quad crossfire on two cards :). However, im extremely peeved that the R700 isnt coming out this year, ATi merging with AMD was a complete mistake and if they keep cutting back they are going to run ATi into the ground.

So if its a dual GPU, so maybe 3870 on one PCB, then its going to cost a little over double 2 3870's wont it. So basically its just 2x 3870's.
