Radeon™ HD 3890

Lol, i actually loved the 2900Xt, good performance with driver updates and once the cooler got changed to a 3rd party one it was a pretty decent card.
So far i've resisted the temptation for ati's 3000 series as it's the same darn card as the 2900 series, just shrunk:p When I upgrade I expect to see a performance increase hehe.
Might get one of these though if the performance is good:cool:.
 
What is the difference having one of these instead of two 3870 working together? Shall it require only one PCI-E slot instead of a Crossfire/SLI motherboard and will the performance be any different than the 2*3870 you can get now?

I would think it would be very marginally quicker than 2 seperate cards and hopefully more power efficient. Also means you do not need 4 slots to effectively enable 4 way crossfire :) (use just 2 cards).

As a totally off-topc sidenote 'theforce', I used to live in Larnaca,Dhekhelia and Famagusta when I was a kid. Loved the place :) They have knocked our old house down now though :( Still remember climing 60ft trees when I was 3 years old, and my turkish friend stealing my rope when I went in for dinner lol.

Glad I decided NOT to upgrade my GFX along with my Dual-Core CPU

I think i'll keep my X1950 PRO for now and see how much these cost when they arrive ;)

i have the A64 about 2.5 years now, just upgraded to dual-core

Had GFX almost a year (i swapped from AGP to PCIe)

Yeah i know i need to upgrade my GFX, ive just fully installed my dual=-core and i feel an urge to buy one, but i havent got the cash at the mo... but the new ones are around the corner arent they, so i'd rather wait them i might then thiink about getting one ;)

only about £100 ? they seems cheap for a top of the range ATI card!, how do they compare to Nvidias anyway?

Its true, playing the GPU market can pay off but it does involve effort and some research, its not a big deal but at beast can be mildly rewarding.

If I was in your boots I would have that X1950Pro up for sale asap and get myself a HD3850, a better card to have under your hood for xmas gaming and probably wouldn't cost you much. Apart from that its always a little interesting to have something new and shiny to play with! :D

Dunno what an X1950Pro is worth atm?
 
Well maybe not SAVE money...but you can upgrade to more current hardware for much cheaper.

For example, I just sold my x1900 cf master card for 100 shipped...and bought a 3850 for 115 shipped.

I just don't understand people who buy things new and just hang on to it...like someone who would buy an 8800GTX at launch and then keep it for a few years while it depreciates into nothing.

I do but thats a different conversation all together.

I think its great that Shi has kept hold of his X1950Pro (256MB?) for almost a year but I couldn't do that myself. I think one big contributing factor is reading these forums, there are carefully designed by SITH-Lord Gibbo to extract replublic credits from you when you spend time here! :eek:

Anyway the HD 3850 is the *skinflints* gamers card for xmas 2007 IMO, if your hard up for cash then roughly £100 ish gets you a lot of card!

I'm sure the price will drop if these HD 3890's turn up but not everyone will be able to afford the new dual-gpu cards.

right, so i dont understand whats the best solution to saving money or what ever,
are u saying its best to get one of the new cards soon as they are released? they cost a bomb, and then when the new cards are out again they drop price so much that its not worth upgrading again for a little bit of performance
