A piece of modern art that does not suck ass!

I like it too..

Hope this does turn out to be a trend in modern art.. actually decent stuff.. recently i thought the silhouettes using the rubbish was very good.

Dislike the fact that Debenhams? Woolworths? has ripped it off and used it in an advert though..

That, is quality. Did anyone see that giant red vinyl tuba thing that was in the great hall at the Tate Modern? That was pretty good. No idea what it was called, but it blew me away.

Much better than

I'm with Jodie on this one. A lot of work has gone into it, but the result is nothing special. Although I do agree it is better than the usual crap that is passed off as "modern art".

He's been around ages IIRC - wasn't he the bloke who made the submarine out of old tyres that someone set fire to? And died of the injuries they received doing it.

Given my earlier thread on the Turner prize and my general contempt for modern art, I think the gorilla is more like it. Imaginative, aesthetic, challenging and fun - it ticks all the boxes and is worthy of the term 'art' in my hypercritical book. :)

More of that and less of the tosh please.

It's not bad - at least it looks like the animal it claims to represent.

There is nothing particularly "modern" about using everyday objects to make sculptures though - in fact it's pretty "old hat" as far as I'm concerned. To class it as "modern art" is a bit of a misnomer - just simple "art" would be more accurate.
