Tell me about the Toyota Celica....

Would you like photos of my insurance documents?

Why the hell would I make it up?

Why does Prudential, and every other insurance website come up with a request to call them, refusal to insure or a high premium?

Are you sure you are comparing this right, how old are you? At 18,19 and 20 insurance is ridiculously high on even a 1.6!

At 21 it is a little cheaper and then 23 and 25 (from what I've seen anyway). Perhaps you're in that range?

Rubbish. I insure my 530i for less than £2k in my own name. FWIW a 330ci costs exactly the same.

I think the 'stereotypical' driver for a 5 series would make it cheaper to insure than a 3. In the same way an Impreza or Evo would cost more than a much more powerful BMW. Its about how much risk is allocated to the car, not just its engine.

Also, Insuring my Fiesta 1.3 with zero NCB was £700 at home, in a sleepy little village, or £1400 on a street in Plymouth. You are comparing Apples and Pears (To take a quote from INP hey Fox :)). There are so many other factors involved you cannot simply say I insured for this, so therefore so can everyone else!

For young drivers the engine makes a big difference, I think Olly and Fox got mixed up on the 5 year NCB I mentioned. They missed the part before it that says named driver, too much pouncing not enough thinking ;)

Plenty of young people on these forums have managed to insure and drive cars with something worthwhile under the hood.

What is your issue?

I KNOW Fox is fully Comp at 22 on a 530i sport at sub £1k, I saw his face when he 'Ran out of Talent'

Issue? Nothing, have you read my posts?

At 19/20 the 330 insurance was too high, Booner is in the same category (or so his profile says) so I assumed it would be way out (which is why I mentioned it) unless he wants to pay a crazy amount in insurance?

Unfortunately, yes.

Assuming Booner doesn't live in a crime hell-hole, there's no reason insurance couldn't be manageable if he shopped around.

FWIW, Olly's is the silver car in my sig, mine is the black one. I can vouch for him being 18 and that his insurance is in his own name and 100% above board.

If you genuinely believe that at 19/20 you can insure a 330 for a good price then please enlighten me. As I (and many other young drivers) have tried many insurers and when they did actually give a price it was not worth it.

Why is it unfortunate that you read my posts? I've based it entirely off facts, getting your hopes up for a car like a 330 and finding insurance is probably more than 40% of the car value is unfair and I just wanted to let him know as a young driver.

Okay, after checking it was slightly over 2k this year, but at renewal time it should be ~1600. Believe me now? ;)

Ah he is 18, I had my insurance docs come through for a 3.2 V6 version of my car for the same insurance price. This was infact a mistake.

If it is a 530 and under 2k then that is a nice price especially at 18. Let me try entering it at the Prudential site, I am going to assume it won't give me a premium.

I just did an identical input into Pru....

Your car insurance quote
£3,908.10
Inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax where applicable.

They've made a mistake, my insurer did the same. I feel sorry for you if you have an accident and there systems show different to your documents, this is why I didn't take advantage when they (my insurers) quoted me 1600 for a 3.2 V6.

Olly just has - a 330i would be a very similar price.

£2200 for an awesome car is worth it when insuring a complete rust bucket at that age would probably still cost you £1500.

And as for the 40% of the car's value comment... Where can I get a 330i Sport that cheap?! Please... do enlighten me.

You've obviously done something different to me, I can still get an almost identical quote. What makes you think they've made a mistake?
