Babies...

If you have never had kids you will never understand the love and joy that they can bring.

Thats what I always hear parents say, Ive also heard things like you will never have lived if you dont have kids.

Personally I have enough love and joy in my life and it would be disturbed if I had children. I see parents toil and looked harrassed, financially crippled, disrespected etc.

Our time is our own, as is our money. We can go on holiday when ever we choose, live where we want, drive what ever car I want and my house doesnt constantly look like a tip.

Same here, on both counts. In fact, I think the only thing that my Mother ever got for free was baby milk in the early 70's! Both my parents worked to pay for our upbringing and have never, ever relied on State hand-outs.

I am terribly sorry old chap but I don't believe you:D

thought you got tax credits regardless though?

Well unless you were earning a couple of hundred k a year

They would have to basically not register the birth not to get child allowance:eek:

So basically when he says no state handouts he means 'just like all other working families'

I can say my house doesn't look like a tip and, as I said, I have 3 young children. We can also do things we want to and drive cars we like, I don't fly so we're limited with holidays for that reason only. We're not millionaires but we aren't hard up.

Some people don't want children and that's fair enough but there's no need for anyone to be so disrespectful towards parents simply because we have children. If it wasn't for people like us there wouldn't be a human race for much longer. This country need more young people working to pay for pensions. My children will be working and paying for people that don't have children to have a pension.

Come on !! You're 18 and you dont even know tax credits is a recent thing ??

well all i remember is that there where a bunch of adverts saying we're replacing the old system with tax credits, just didn't know the old name for it. no need to get arsey bout it.

I apologise for not taking an interest in tax law when i was ten :(

Well then good for you for being well off enough to do that.
Far from it. I grew up on the Eastcliffe council estate in Berwick (number 93 if you fancy risking life and limb to go have a look) and went without xmas presents for a few years (such a hardship...)
Im not on about the scroungers who claim housing benefit food stamps, etc etc, but I dont think you can give all children the same "scum" label.

Oh I can...And did.

If she paid taxes then why would she feel she couldn't/shouldn't claim child benefit? From what you've said it seems like she could have done with the extra money. Every child is entitled to child benefit as it isn't means tested. If it's a principal thing then I don't see why as if she ever paid taxes then she's paid into the system anyway.

You can but that's just your opininon and far from a fact, are you scum too then seeing as you were once a child?

Oh and if the parents work, they pay taxes too so it's not just your taxes that pay for them. Without children this country would cease to have any humans on it soon enough so it's just nonsensical.

Don't think there was, although I was a bit young to remember politics back then.

eh np just curious, wouldn't feel comfortable asking my parents about it, (and would subsequently be bogged down a a long an detailed financial history of the time from my dad :p)

And what film is that quote in your sig from, i can remember seeing/hearing it but can't think where from?:mad:
