January Transfer Window

Bent hasn't become crap overnight, he'll come good. We did pay over the odds though and I think Bent just needs to forget that and concetrate on his football... he seems to be wilting under the pressure of this unfair pricetag, shame.

Bent was never that good in the first place

If Tevez is badly injured (sounds like he was stretchered off) Man Utd need a striker in Jan, otherwise we can say goodbye to the league and probably CL also

The Times seems to think that Man Utd actually enquired about him 4 weeks ago (maybe just the wording but it just sounds more viable from them - if it was the mirror or someone saying the same thing it would be meaningless)

Actually, The Times are the worst for making up Football transfer rumours.

Aye the pics of Tevez at the end of the game were a bit worrying. If there is an offer in for Defoe this could speed things up a bit

Why the need to over complicate matters? no one wants him, no one has inquired about him and no one has offered for him.

i'm not complicating the matter and you clearly do not comprehend what i was saying when you say that no one wants him, no one had inquired about him etc - the three are not the same and my point was that most teams i imagine would want him but would not pay the necessary monies it would take to get him. add to that your gross misrepresentation of berbatov as a player...

According to the United website, Tevez has just suffered a very badly bruised right ankle.

He's doubtful for the clash against Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday which is a worry.

Rooney is slated to return from the virus that has been keeping him out, so I'd expect him and Saha to be upfront for that game.

Tevez isn't expected to be out for long.

Its a relief that its not a lot worse but it shows the lack of faith in Saha that even a slight injury to Rooney or Tevez causes panic!

I would go into the Villa game with Rooney and Ole up front and have no worries about that but Saha just doesnt fill me with confidence. I'm starting to realise how much I took for granted Oles ability to slot into the team at any time and do a first class job!

I think the lack of faith was evident straight from the top yesterday, we had Park on the LW, Nani on the RW and Tevez and Ronaldo up front with Saha on the bench. So in essence, a winger up front rather than a 'striker'.

I must admit I did think that myself. If Ronaldo is starting up front ahead of him then he's obviously not being looked upon that highly by Fergie. I definitely think theres another striker on the cards. Wouldnt mind Defoe myself really.

He isnt that great a player.
Clubs will go public and especially if they have rejected approaches and offers, will go straight to the press.
Even with players like Robbie Savage.

He isnt worth anywhere near £20 million in todays market as he doesnt offer enough, he doesnt work hard enough, is shut of games to easily and is one of the easiest forwards to stand up in the current game.
You only have to look at his performance against the mighty Villa last night to see why nobody would consider £20 million for him, he did nothing all night.

Mabye its just he expected to do so much at Spurs that he just gets bogged down, personally i wouldnt want to spend £20 million finding out if this was the case.

Whilst Ronaldo isn't an out and out striker, I'd definitely say he warrants the spot due to his goal scoring ability. That said, I'd still rather see him on the wing due to his pace and abililty to beat almost anyone that comes up against him.

It was good to see Park back yesterday, but he really isn't going to be a first team player and won't start that many games.

Nani has been pretty disappointing so far, I'm not saying he's been a bad signing ... just that I personally had pretty high expectations of him, that coupled with how Anderson has figured so well into the team and performed so well. I just hope Nani finds his form soon.

We've found ourselves in the same situation that we were last year when only had Rooney/Ole/Saha. What with Ole retiring and Saha plagued by injury and never really getting a good run of games to find the form that he sometimes shows, we need someone to fill in if Tevez or Rooney get injured.

With Tevez supposedly sidelined for the Villa game, and the possibility that Rooney may not be 100% either.... We may have a much more difficult game than people expected when the draw was first announced.

Anelka would probably make a good purchase for Chelsea, although it will be interesting to see how he would react if everyone got fit and he were dropped.

it'd be a shame if Anelka went to Chelsea, i think he could do a very good job for Man United. looks like Chelsea all the way though to be honest.

Question for Liverpool fans, you get £18million to spend in January that's it no other buying or selling of players etc to raise funds. Do you seal the deal for Mascherano or do you buy a top drawer winger/striker? who do you need more? in this theoretical instance Masch is going if you don't sign him in January.

Bit of a open question there dan. Did we have to sell a striker to raise the money or was it just given and in that case why can't we sell to raise more money?

We need a winger more than we need Mascherano but i don't see any reason why we won't get both in the end. I don't think we'll complete the Mascherano deal during the transfer window though, we've got all the way through the season to tie it up and the Yanks seemingly want to wait.
