What lightning settings are that?
How much worse does the standard ''high'' setting look like compared to that, I have yet to come across a level that looks like that, I'm in the 2nd lvl atm, is this later on?

thats not even high settings, but its with HDR and edge AA, 8xAF, its the level with the archelogical dig, would have 16xFSAA if i could but it is a slideshow :(

Think people are comparing the gfx of crysis in a good framerate (30-40+fps for those who are anal about numbers) to a similar framerate in cod4
(Crysis = medium at 1680x1050, no aa, no af if you want a consistent 30fps for me, COD4 = all maxed,4xaa, 8x af consistent 60 fps)

As they should be tbh

Graphically crysis is far superior, but in reality it doesnt really look so super when you crank down the settings to increase the framerate to be frank

well with those settings i get around 30~ frames/second, and its perfectly playable, where as lots of FPS need high framerate to be smooth crysis doesn't appear to :)

hi erm i posted this but there seem to be more people looking at this thread. so i was wondering what people think performance will be like with an asus en8800 gts 512 quad 6600 cpu and plenty of ram. not needing an resolution too high . and ermm thats it

In XP, 1280x1024, 4x AA, all high settings work perfectly for me, don't know fps but it's more than smooth enough, I only check for fps if I eperience lag lol, but since I dont, all I can say is: it's smooth...

My rigs inferior to yours and i play 1280x1024 with high/very no aa at about 30-35fps under vista (obviously dx10)

edit: Should mention this is before the snowy bits where it needs to be medium/high

yeah the frozen part KILLS performance, plus AA is no biggy in crysis, turn on HDR you know you want to :p

The first half odf the game i can run crysis very high with no aa or af on 1200x1000 quite easly. I dont know or really care about the frame rate as long as its playerble. (i know this because i built my friends pc who has the same pc as me and the game and ive played a lot of the first half of the game on his pc all set up to very high).

On a sidenote, does anyone know what this is, my rocks are acting up:

snip

Is this a Crysis bug ?
Is this my gpu acting up (oh no, it'd be my 2nd G92 card being ******) ?
Or is it the Nvidia Driver?

( oh and yes I know that game desperatly needs AF, will force it in nvidia panel for the next session :p. )

no in the distance rocks dissapear so that the graphics card does not need to fully render rocks that are only going to are a few hundred pixels. to fix this make an autoexec file and edit the vegetation distance, for some reason rocks come under this setting too. just add e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation=50 (very high is set to 45), that practically erases all popping of small rocks and grass. bigger rocks come under e_view_dist_ratio, medium to very high are set to 60 by default.

i just completed crysis on my 4200x2 and x1950gt @ 580/1200 on low/med settings with a few custom settings (including no shading on ice) and i think it still lookd great. hopefully i can grab a cheap 8800gt in march when the new cards come out. :)

I have to agree that the graphics on Crysis are better than COD4. However, although they may be technically superior, I feel that they don't portray the same level od atmosphere as COD4, which is why I actually prefer CoD4 to Crysis.

Personally I think Crysis is massively overhyped.

Graphically it doesn't come anywhere near what we were shown beforehand, sure once the technology has arrived it might come close but people are playing it now in 6-12 months time something else will be out and we'll be concentrating on that instead of replaying a year old game. I'm personally in the camp that finds COD4 much easier on the eye.

Gameplay wise I also found COD4 far more enjoyable, people will say it's linear but as with Far Cry I dont see the point of having vast environments to explore when all routes lead to the same destination with nothing different to gain from each of them.

Also whether or not it's just me being crap at the game someone will no doubt tell me but I find that the best way to progress from section to section is to use the cloak mode and avoid engaging the 50+ enemies that all appear out of thin air - now where's the fun in that? Aiming if pretty poor as well so when you are faced with having to dispose of some Koreans especially from distance I often find I end up shooting past them especially when aiming for head shots. Lastly the AI does not impress, your enemies seem to have the knowledge of your location however far away you may be

I keep going back to Crysis and giving it another go mainly because there's nothing new out at the moment but also because of the hype I feel I must be missing something yet everytime I do give it another go I'm always left with the feeling that this just isn't anywhere near as good as COD4 or Bioshock.

How? They didn't show CGI for 2 years and then release the game. All the videos and screenshots are in engine.

See you point below about how you play the game. All the different routers and options are there, so you can have fun and play the game different each time. There's nothing wrong with linear games, but I'm glad not every game is linear.

There's so much more to AI than knowing your location. Especially with a fully destructible world. You really need to go and play more and experiment. Remember games are about having FUN! So enjoy yourself and stop nitpicking.

You mean the AI players that appear running from other parts of the level, be it on foot, my jeep or by boat after being signalled with a flare or hearing gunshots?

Nothing wrong with the aiming in the game, you clearly can't shoot, the guns are very accurate, and you can take down 3-4 people in a matter of seconds with a few shots to the chest/head with a silencer off.
Imagine your leaving the silencer on which limits the velocity of the bullet and therefore the amount of damage drops dramatically.

The only problem I have had with AI in the game is the boat gunners + choppers, guys on foot don't know your there unless they see you, if they know your about they search around the area they have seen you in.

played the first couple of levels and have not gone back to it...
Looks great, but just got bored with it and preferred COD4 - just personal, no valid reason why, just thought it was more fun and loved the multiplayer...
