Hi, ummm what CFG did you use? could you post it plz?

i shall take screenshot of my autoexec file, here:

There's absolutely no argument when it comes to graphics.

When both are set to High, Crysis is better looking than CoD4.

However, as games, I much, much prefer CoD4 over Crysis. I don't have hours and hours to play games any more, and having a huge level to run around with no interaction doesn't interest me any more. With CoD4, there is always action, there's always something to think about, there's always something to do. You're never left thinking "where the hell do I go now?", as I was in FarCry/Crysis.

Give me a fully-unlocked Crysis, and I may go and spend a spare few minutes running around enjoying the graphics, but otherwise, I'd much prefer games like CoD4.

Crysis is a good game (currently just during the AAA attacks) however I would say that whilst in places the game looks stunning in others is is worse than average. (the latter is especially apparent when in doors - some of the textures even on very high XP hack are appauling)

Gameplay wise it is good but nothing groundbreaking (the suit controls do add a new direction though). The physics are a nice touch however.

For reference I am playing on a 8800GTX running 1680x1050 XP hack 'very high' config with shadows and post processing on medium* no AA and 8xAF.

*Shadows is on medium as anything above this setting cripples my FPS yet I can't tell any difference in the quality, post processing is on medium as having it on high makes me feel sick.

yeah very correct, never have shadows, volumetrics or sound on anything higher than medium, i can tell no difference beyond that, plus they reduce frame rates

Multiplayer... I havent tried crysis yet in MP but thats because im only playing COD4 MP. So many different games and fun on all levels. Whether its 3 on 3 with just friends, or 10 on 10 its amazing. anyone played both MP ?

Just played crysis demo just now. Smooth on medium at 1024x res with 2x aa on and 4x af on.

For some weird reason auto detect wants to use high shaders but when it does my screen goes green and low quality very corrupt like. Medium shaders work tho.

Nice game so far tho the jungle is a bit thick and when i got to the jammer device wasnt really sure what i was supose to do so i just sneaked at the back tryed takin a guard out on the left of the building, didnt die straight away so foobered my plan of sneak attack cos i was using silencer on rifle tho i guess they would have saw him die and paniced ah well.

Anyone got any tips for this bit how to do it nicely? I guess i could have used cloak but that goes so quick and it was daylight so duno how effective it was.

I do like the enviroment tho even if i do prefer open spaces so i can always see my enemy so i can shoot at em without aiming as much. Switching bullets to sleep to normal is a bit of a pain too.

Is there any way i can get my rifle to have more zoom when i go to tactical mode (right click) as its not the best when trying to shoot somit quite a bit aways with a tranquiliser.

Ok i played the demo i loved it, wana play more now. :)

Though.. Theres a strange bug, if i use forced AF in ati panel and then turn shaders on high ingame i get major corruption if i dont force AF then i can use high shaders no probs.

I play on high on everything but res with it being 1024 res and no AA tho i may put it up see how it plays fps wise. Fps wise at high its very nice must be 30fps or somit or close. Gfx are really nice except some textures aint very sharp like rocks and some other things. But the enviroment textures etc are very nice.

I almost didnt like it cos of the whole "who the frell is shooting at me, how many and where" but i got past the bits i was stuck lol. Im really more of a wide open spaces kinda player like in mohaa etc.

I do get some gfx bugs when i was near the end of crysis i duno whats causing it but it was really off putting. I will show you, and its like the players body was duplicated and offset kinda.

Any ideas how this is fixed? Im on 7.7 drivers for ati x1950pro 512mb agp card, performance is good i just want the duplication thing fixed. Also when i looked straight up crysis crashed.

You mean the AI players that appear running from other parts of the level, be it on foot, my jeep or by boat after being signalled with a flare or hearing gunshots?

Nothing wrong with the aiming in the game, you clearly can't shoot, the guns are very accurate, and you can take down 3-4 people in a matter of seconds with a few shots to the chest/head with a silencer off.
Imagine your leaving the silencer on which limits the velocity of the bullet and therefore the amount of damage drops dramatically.

The only problem I have had with AI in the game is the boat gunners + choppers, guys on foot don't know your there unless they see you, if they know your about they search around the area they have seen you in.

actually at long range the weapons are terrible (well from what ive used) though come to think of it i did have the silencer on. Does that make a difference in crysis? And i dont have bad aim and i am hitting them, but at a distance you can keep putting bullets into them and they just stand there but they dont seem to die even though they have been hit a lot and they just keep jumping every time they get shot. I found it kinda lame. At close quarters they are easy to take down and the guns are very accurate. It seems it takes more bullets to kill them at long range then short range even if you are hitting them, which seems stupid unless they are jumping because bullets are landing near them but it looks like im hitting them to me.

The SCAR is immensly powerfull and is more than capable of flattening Koreans at high range with the assault scope. Jump into strength mode to weaken the recoil and you can fire bursts very accurately. The FY71 isn't quite as good though imo.
With the sniper scope at full zoom and single shot mode its as good as a sniper rifle if you aim for the head, even with the silencer on here.

Think I saw someone say on some other forums (with stats to back it up) that the silencer reduced damaged by about a 1/3.

Does to me, a silencer reduces the muzzle velocity of a bullet below the speed of sound. The reason for this? The screaming noise a bullet makes as it flies is caused by a small sonic boom that follows it, this noise can actually be quite loud and is perfect for working out the direction from which a bullet has come from. Lower the speed, remove the noise, but in turn, lower the speed, lower the stopping power.

Silenced guns aren't as powerful or as accurate at range as a non-silenced rifle.

he speaketh the exact truth!

i always use the FY71 ingame though, ammo is never empty with it.

also, it sounds gorgeous :D

Not used the sniper and im not sure if i tryed it with the scar. But at long range with the silencer on and using athe ak and possibly the scar it just seems like they dont die, i shoot them and i see that they jump at being shot and i keep doing it and they just dont die its like their health is replenishing.

in real life they use differnt bullets with the silencer.

in real life they use smaller rounds with the silencer, which is another reason as to why they deal less damage. of corse in real life any bullet size can kill. Although taking a 70cal over a 5mm significantly reduces your chance of living after it :p lol.

I don't see what the big problem was with the alien ship level? I find it rediculously amusing sneaking up on big alien wobbly things grabbing them around the neck and punching them repeatedly.

Even more amusing with the small METAL alien tentacle type things.

COD4 runs crap for me, sure its getting 60+fps a lot of the time dropping to 30 odd sometimes due to this awfull stuttering I have for some reason but crysis is so much less annoying at 25fps than COD4 at 60fps stuttering.

Somethings not right with your setup then.

Why do I say this?

I tried as an experiment to install COD4 on my #2 rig.

Its a p4 Sct 423 (The old one) 1.7ghz which is well below the system requirements on the box, 512MB RAM and an aged VIA Chipset, the systems only saving grace is its 128MB 6800LE AGP card, hardly cutting edge.

I spent a good few hours on-line with it over the weekend playing in full (50 player) servers.

Obviously the graphics were set to low and I did not try to increase the settings but the game ran absolutely fine which very much surprised me.

That said, its a relatively old game engine, so why would it run poorly?
