Metal Detectors to Become the Norm in UK Schools

Does anyone else think this is a bad thing and a reminder of the state of schools today?

yep. i would also point out whilst the arguments start in the "playground" the overwhelming number stabbings and the shootings happen outside of the school. the MD's wont do anything.

Why can't people understand it's not the weapons that are the problem, it's the fact people will use them.

Metal detectors, bans etc etc will do nothing, because they don't treat the problem.

I used that word when I was working in a Juvenile Prison and the class turned round and said I must be a copper because they'd never use such a stupid word.
The 'in' word is blade.

i was thinking of futurama, "its Shank or be shanked" Scruffy. The Janitor.

still, it must have been considered at some point that kids carry enough other metal objects that will setoff the detectors that this whole scheme would be completely useless.

I agree. Unfortunately, I guess installing metal detectors is easier/cheaper.

It's like a thing Chris Rock in a song he did AGES ago, If you go to a school where you have metal detectors and some lads are after you, they will wait outside your school because they know you ain't armed lol...Stuff that, School ain't school if it's treated like a prison...

Dont go to parties with metal detectors.
Sure, It may feel safe inside,
But what about all those (BEEP) waitin outside with guns,
They Know You Aint Got One!

All you'd have to do then is put a knife over the fence and as soon as you go through the metal detector go onto the field and get it ...

It's stupid... as soon as metal detectors come in, they'll just find something else to shiv each other with instead.
If they want to stab each other, they'll stab each other.

I hear a lot of kids can easily produce a weapon called "a fist", which while not exactly a stabbing weapon, can cause some measure of damage nonetheless.

really? i've never heard of that! is there any expensive method of removing these dangerous weapons from schools?

OK but when they walk into a bio lab and theres a box full of scalpels what they gonna do?

in my experience, children don't dissect anything anymore. there will never be an occasion where students will have unsupervised access to scalpels in secondary school, or even sixth-form. :(
