WoW - 10 Million Subscribers

It'll probably spawn 10 million clones before we start seeing some more original MMORPGs too. Sucks for the people that don't like WoW.

The game gets a lot of hate and there ARE a whole mass of idiot players. Been in since beta and in a good, v social guild (a lot of us now have met in person) that's doing well in game (vashj and kael left to down before we hit black temple for those that know the game well enough) and it makes a huge difference to the quality of grouped play. Even none-guild runs tend to go well as groups are pulled from friends in other "top" guilds. Those that arent are hit and miss but theres a lot of decent folk in game too.

In short - its probably a bit of an uphill struggle to get into now but can still be very rewarding :)

Think you'll find that it's a better idea to do Hyjal first to complete the first parts of the T6 set and gear up further before hitting BT. It's a VERY fun and well designed raid. My guild killed Archimonde last week and then I quit the game, deleted 4 lv70 chars, 3 raiding atm, one about to start Kara attunement. The amount of time invested to farm SSC, Maggie and Hyjal is stupid, and I guess i finally saw the light when my missus threatenend to leave me until I stop playing.

If only I could've found a guild that's more progressive requiring less commitment with regards to raiding, I still would've been playing, but I'm glad I'm not.

Good luck with Vashj, get the tainted elementals down quick, and nuke the hell out of her before the bats overwhelm you in P3, other than that, she is manageable.

Thats what its all about on WOW. I played on hellscream PVE for nearly 2 years on multiple chars including my naxx geared priest pre tbc and MH/BT geared hunter (was the alt lol) after tbc came out. I only stopped playing when my job at the time made damn sure I couldnt play at normal hours, so had to stop raiding which was poo :(

Now theres no point going back to my hunter as my old guild has cleared everything, and even though my gear is still above average on the char, my old guild havent got a spot for it :(

Enjoying the OcUK guild on shattered halls pvp though. Its got a good set of people in the guild and on the server by the looks of it. On my hunter Ive had a lot of higher level players come to my aid when getting corpse camped by alliance in STV which is a really nice refreshing feeling, compared to zenedar and warsong when I first started where literally no one would be interested in helping anyone else out lol.

Roll on the good times :D

I must be one of the few people that has never seen WOW (apart from some "Internet is for Porn" Video on Youtube! :o:D) nor have I ever tried it.

Tbh I doubt I am likely to (don't even know if theres a "demo" ? )

:o

you can download a 10day free trial, which is actually only a few MB and it streams...can be playing the game within about 5 minutes, im doing this at the minute, havent got a single bit of lag yet...ever, got the game ready to install when the trial runs out :D

Whoa, lets say about 50% of those people are heavily addicted.

5 million lives ruined :(.
Blizzard must be laughing hard from all the cash they're getting in monthly.

Their ceo's must be having a whole carpark of ferrari's & lambo's by now.

Oh for **** sake get a grip. If people bloody well enjoy it then there is no problem.

All of this talk about "OMG YOU MUST NOT HAVE A LIFE" if BS, they play because they enjoy it ffs.

Can you tell comments like that annoy me :D

Sorry to hijack this thread but I noticed a few people here talk about raiding 25man with a good bunch of people, assuming this is true are there any openings in your guild? I have played for 3yrs, raided a few instances MC, ZG. I cleared/led Kara and Gruul but then quit on the US version.

Recently got back into it on the EU version of the game and will soon be 70 and looking to join a guild that doesn't have a lot of drama and that like to progress and enjoy themselfs doing so.

I was an Orc Warrior and a Tauren Druid but I am now a Drenai Shaman.

While not quite as uncommon as hen's teeth, Shammies are comparatively rare on the Alliance side. They are also the mutt's nuts at raid healing should you enjoy being Resto spec. I'm sure you'll have little difficulty finding a raid guild if you're reasonably skilled.

Yeah - I think the success of Wow is going to be detrimental to the gaming market for a few years to come.

Good post - I agree whole heartedly. I started wow in an average guild with a few friends, so it was fun, but it was never great.

Then I rerolled horde, joined the servers best guild and met a bunch of people who were dedicated to advancement, but above all, just a group of like minded individuals who were nice. Yes the commitment required was fairly high, but thats what continual server first kills require, back then I loved the 40 man raiding.

TBC has somewhat ruined it for me, but I have made so many good friends from it I don't mind. I've kinda fully switched to PvP too now, as I don't have time to farm for raiding, but the arena is fairly forgiving in terms of farming mats required.

I wish they put more effort into it being on 1 server like EvE, it is only just an MMO, how many players can 1 server sustain? and even then most is instanced.

That comment makes it sound like you've never played WoW. To have everyone on one server would mean 50x the number of players in every area, so either you'd never be able to do anything or they would have to make areas 50x bigger (and that would be stupidly boring). There's very little instanced play before end game, and even then a huge amount of players will still spend a lot of time in cities. If there were 50x the number of people in Shattrath, most players wouldn't be able to load it at all. WoW would suck if it was all on one server.

My bro just started WoW, he is a graphics whore but is living loving the "gameplay" ... after seeing him turned I can see how they have 10 million :p

Besides it's not like the servers aren't linked, the Battlegroups have a certain number of realms grouped together so you are fighting with/against players from another server anyway.

The problem is, with the tiny amount of people on each server, you lose out on the politics side of things and also the way that events and players are "famous" across the Eve universe... can't really happen in WoW. Apart from Leroy Jenkins, I guess.

The gameplay of WoW doesn't really appeal to me - but I'll probably give PotBS a shot at some point. :)

I only started playing the game in Jan 07 (after TBC) and im still really enjoying playing. Maybe because ive not done most of the old content, ive not fallen out of love with the game.

The guild im in has just cleared Hyjal and we've done about 7 bosses in BT. We have about 40 or so active guildies and we play almost every day of the week. The online social factor appeals to me more than anything these days.

Who knows what ill feel like when the next expansion comes out. Ill probably quit like you guys have done. I've tried other game too, LOTRO was a bag of poo tbh.

I should point out i do still have a life outisde wow. i often take breaks from the game just to stop me going insane. The large group of players we have mean we can still progress even when people take a break.

I wonder how many high level WOW players are married?

I used to play and got my character to lvl60, but lost interest once my guild disbanded.

Now there's no way I could even achieve that nowadaways without getting serious earache.

However, it's a tremendous game for the first few months at least, some of the most memorable gaming 'moments' I've ever had, and I've been playing games since 1983.

I had multiple level 70s without getting any earache from my wife, the secret is to have a wife who is interested in games too :D

will there be any other game to beat these figures ? is there anything left for the future ?

The Maple Story mmo in asia has nearly 50 million accounts, so yes, there will (and indeed are) games to beat these figures. As for the future, well its a planet of 6 billion, so the amount who actually play an MMO is currently a very very very small amount. Plenty of scope yet :)
