January Transfer Window

Also a few stories saying we're after Aimar.
3 years ago I'd have said it's a cracking buy, but really he's no better than what you have. Aimar has always struck me as a player with immense talent, but wouldn't be able to bring it over to England. He's not been the same player for a couple of seasons either (then again, I would say when he was at his best he was playing under Benitez).

I personally think Benitez would do better if he looked outside of Spain at times. If he's looking at Aimar as backup, then that's fine, but it would seem it's as an alternative to Mascherano. For me, it would appear to be Benitez wasting more money.

Aimar is pap, never lived up to his potential and is very inconsistent. I'd take Garcia back over him any day of the week.

lol, I love how you state him as 'inconsistent' then name one of the most inconsistent players to ever play in the Premiership over him. Not that I disagree with you, I'd have Garcia ahead of him for you too, Garcia was great to watch.

I compared them because they're very similar players, except Aimar isn't as good and would probably cost more than what we let Garcia go for. Yes they are both very inconsistent :)

I don't think the stories are true, Rafa only said the other day that he was only after a CB. Like you guys have said he's got so much talent but just not realised it. Who knows a move may be good for him but if he were to join it wouldn't be a replacement for Mascherano, he's an attacking midfielder and Masch is a defensive midfielder

Indeed, but you can still only play so many CM's, whether they be AMC's or DMC's at any one time.

Alonso / Gerrard / Aimar
Alonso / Gerrard / Mascherano
Gerrard / Aimar / Mascherano
Aimar / Gerrard / Alonso

etc... Gerrard is a certainty, but none of the others strike me as players who would happily sit on the bench, so surely you're better off not having one of them, so getting Aimar would be without Mascherano or vice-versa.

Providing Rafa stays (which i think he will) then Mascherano will stay as with Sissoko going he's our only defensive midfielder. Gerrard's going to stay and the only one who may leave would be Alonso (as he's not certain to play) but Aimar wouldn't be coming to replace him. If we were to sign him it would be as a replacement/addition for Kewell, Benayoun etc. Aimar wouldn't play as a cm but more as a 2nd striker type role.

Ah, I see what you mean. That would possibly work well, though Torres really strikes me as someone who needs to work with someone next to him as opposed to behind him. Someone like Tevez would do wonders for Torres, but Aimar in that role is a hell of a lot better than what you can offer through your 2 appalling strikers and Crouch.

I think you mean Torres would do wonders for Tevez ;)

Tbh i think in Benayoun and Babel (Babel more so) we have players who can play that role off Torres and i'd rather we spent the money and got a top class wide player.

I think you'll find Tevez' stats are exceptional alongside Ronaldo and Rooney as it is ;).
Babel has potential, but the odd thing I see with him is that he only ever seems to be dangerous for around 5 minutes a game. His decision making will improve (it has to improve) because at the moment it's woeful at times, there's potential there though.
Benayoun isn't as quick, but his decision making is a lot better, I'd go for him there. The fact he's bagged 2 hat-tricks this season is pretty impressive too, and he'll do the nitty-gritty if he has to.
