Hello.

I have a fairly restricted diet which means I find it very difficult to get the required amount of calories a day. I would say I get enough protein from supps mostly (I try my hardest to get it from foods but sometimes is difficult), but I'm not making the gains I think I should be with my gym attendance. My lifts seem to be increasing (albeit slowly) but there is no aesthetic difference. I don't look bigger.

I was thinking of investing in a weight gainer; this one to be more precise: http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/weight-gain/weight-gainer-(6lb)/

Worth it? Any experiences with this, or any other gainer?

Any help would be advised, I'm still fairly new to the game.

Thanks.

Can I ask what is restrictive about your diet? There might be something here that somebody knows which you may not have thought of.

Basically no meat, and just quite fussy with other things so is pretty restricted. I pretty much have eggs, milk, whey, casein, nuts, cheese for my protein (unfortunately no chicken :(), and try for a varied range with other things. I would say I have 2500-3000 calories a day but struggle to make them clean calories, and wondered if a gainer might help me along just a little bit?

- if not then there are also other alternatives, I can't link them now because I'm on my iPod but on the same site you could get a tub of whey protein and how ever many kgs of fine Scottish oats you want (cheap) and mix them together in a shaker/blender with milk and depending on how much you care about the taste you could add peanut butter for some healthy fats and added protein. As I said I can't really do the maths right now on my iPod as it takes ages but it may end out cheaper per kg. If not then that other one should be ok (if you don't like fish).

Mammoth Grow is pretty good if you really don't have time to prepare proper food. I got pretty good gains when bulking using it. The all in one gain is OK as well.

I'd make sure the majority of the carbs come from oats/barley, try and avoid simple carbs unless PWO (imo).

I just received some samples of the Mass Attack product from http://www.boditronics.co.uk/ and I must say they're gorgeous to taste and have a good blend of ingredients, though quite expensive I'm gonna buy some.

Carbohydrates
Of which Complex -- 55g
Of which sugars -- 15g

and a good source of fats/slow digesting protein.

Whey mixed with oats, BCAA and an omega 3 source is perfect for weight gain.

Loads of omega 3 in either flax oil or hemp oil, can't remember which unfortunately. One is very high in 3 and has some 6, vice versa for the other. Sainsburys currently have a special offer on "Good Oil" (hemp) in their health section. £3.49 for a 500ml bottle.

It's best to avoid simple carbs all together. Whey mixed with oats, BCAA and an omega 3 source is perfect for weight gain.

What argument is there against using simple carbs immediately PWO to replenish glycogen levels mate? I've used WMS/Dextrose in my PWO shake as long as I've been training.

Though I agree a home made weight gainer is a much better option value wise and since you know exactly what goes in.

I very much doubt there'll be anything useful in there and certainly not for a good price.

I wouldn't mind trying one of these drinks because i dont like a lot of food, im as thin as a stick, just can't eat enough.

Are these ok to use? And buy some weights and use them in the morning in my room?

There really expensive tho, £32 for 10 servings of that Interactive Mammoth 2.2kg. Thats £32 a week?:confused:

Mammoth is OK, you can get 4.4kg for £33.99 from http://www.thesupplementstore.co.uk/interactive-mammoth.htm

You don't need the full servings either, I used to take just 2 big scoops in a shake when I was working long hours. And I was only taking one shake a day. (just normal whey in the morning / after training).

It's not a bad gainer by any means (although a lot of sugar), but if you really don't have time to prepare food then go for it. As I said, I got some excellent gains when I was using it.
