just arrived..my personal review of 3870x2

Cod 4 i feel is a dodgy game to run at the best of times, i really think the level of aa you can apply depends on the level you're playing. The ghillie suit level can be pretty hard on performance with adaptive fsaa applied obviously because of all the foliage. Other levels have a crap load of smoke effects etc which again can hit performance quite a bit. I remember having to lower my aa level on the ghillie level using an 8800 ultra.

Forno did you say you were using that amd gpu tool to clock the card? Ive tried it and it just tells me no valid devices found. 0_o

Hello there, just received my new X2 at work so have to wait till tonight to install, few pics so far:

Interestingly they forgot to blank out the PCi-E 2.0 on the front of the box:

So what is the current verdict driver/OS wise.

Am I better off sticking with XP, or using Vista for the X2?

I know the normal crossfire drivers tend to be better in Vista X64, they are the only ones with working Crossfire in Crysis.

But what about the X2?

Best of sticking with XP imo, judging by those benchies from forn.

That looks a cracking card above, im really getting tempted now. :p

Yeah. :D

I keep saying to myself, no give it a couple of months, few more driver sets, but im starting to buckle. :p

Go on Loadsa, get one. You've spent too much time on the Dark side and we all know what happens to the death star :D.

The graphics on the plastic enclosure of the Sapphire looks a lot better than the plain red casing. They should have made the plain red casing X2's in the hot rod fashion again as my 2900Pro is pretty groovy. The Sapphire one looks more pleasing to the eye though.

Glad i got the Sapphire one tbh, have been very happy with them after my 9800pro and current 1950pro, and the lady on the front is pleasing to the eye.

/edit the only bad thing is there is no game with it, not sure if that is the same with all x2s, cos i know the basic 3870xt came with a game (CoJ iirc).

it should be bundled with CoJ if you purchased from here
Don't think many ATi cards 'bundled' with CoJ actually arrived with it. I've heard a few reports of no games received. Maybe stock levels were low. :(

Pity really as i had to buy it seperately... pretty decent game too! :)

didnt get either of my copies of coj, despite being told they were shipped out after phoning them up.

One was supposed to come to my work address the other to my home address. Dont believe 2 copies went missing :(

Unfortunately i purchased elsewhere just before the price went up, thought it was more of a manufacturer thing than an e-tailer thing, but oh well.

Not too bothered as now i can at least have a go at the end of crysis without the framerate going down to 7  But i did get a full version of 3DMark06, lol.
