One myth about meals is that you have to eat so that you're full, that's not the case at all. You just have to eat enough so you are satisfied and not hungry anymore. I think a lot of people end up eating double what their body needs at most mealtimes.

I'm on the Slimming World diet. Basically, you don't mix proteins and carbs, but you can eat as much as you want. Also not drinking.

Lost 5 pounds in one week.

sorry stolen from first page, why the hell would you not mix protein and carbs? Its fat and carbs that shouldnt be mixed in the same meal

EDIT* I've just now read through it all and my god some of the diet advice/past stories are horrifying! They would only do your body more harm than it is worth. If you do actually want some advice, e-mail is in trust but im on exams so dont be taking the mic, dont want to be wasting my time.

As for your 'miracle hunt.' Diet based on your needs, exercise routine based on what you want and can handle - that is all that's required. And please for god sake see it as a change of lifestyle, not another 'diet' this will just see you yo-yo'ing forever.

Im unable to exercise is basically any form due to injuries and as such have lost my once decent shape, least im back in track with the diet now after some depressed months. You've got the chance to change your life and body, its simple, get some motivation, get some determination, grow a pair of nads and keep consistent

Like me at the moment. The meals my mum and grandma made up for me to take back after xmas are twice the amount i would usually eat. What i should really do it half the meals made. But im lazy and just defrost in microwave then cook in microwave and eat it all

In Islam, we're taught to eat so that are stomachs are 1/3 food, 1/3 liquid and 1/3 air, shame I ain't got quite the hang of how to tell, tbh it's mums fault for feeding me too much lol. I am getting better though, cut down on junk food really helps, my skin is healthier too

I lost 5.5 stones last year in 10 months on the slimming world diet!
Can i just say I never gave up anything I love chocolate, take aways etc, I just ate them in moderation, eg I got weighed on a Thursday so after class we'd have a take away, or because I love chocolate I'd have a snack sized chocolate bar as part of my allowence!

Syph's missus.

Congratulations on the weightloss.

Were you left with any loose skin? You lost a lot of weight very quickly, many are left with it because the skin hasn't/didn't have enough time to readjust.

No, it's fine. That's roughly 2 pounds a week which is exactly the timeframe you should lose weight at for that not to happen.

You can easily eat 4-5 mouthfuls and that's all you need in a meal.

I do have a bit of spare skin but nothing unsightly.
As some has already said if its a steady weight loss you don't get that problem as much. I also exercised a few times a week which helped.

Edit - Also the Slimming world diet isn't about not mixing proteins and carbs, what they do is limit the amount you have of one or another, but you can change which you have most of every meal.

Can anyone advise. I know excersie and eat healthy blah blah,

Any better ideas.
There are no 'better ideas'. You said it yourself - Diet and Exercise. There are no 'miracle cures' which will result in you losing 40lb overnight.

I read a story of a lad on another forum who popped 2 pills each night for 2 weeks before going running around his block. Apparently he lost something stupid like 10 stone in 2 weeks! (if thats true or not i dont know) Its one of the most unhealthy things i have ever heard im im supprised he didnt die.

1 pound = ~3500 calories
1 stone = ~49k calories
10 stone = ~490k calories

he wouldve have to have used around 35000 calories more than he ate a day which is physically impossible

The amount of calories you should eat depends on your current weight. Someone who weighs around 200lbs should eat around 2000/2500 depending on their goals. Bulking or cutting.

Breakfast should be your biggest meal of the day, NOT the last meal of the day like many here have said. Also, the body can only burn around 600 calories in one sitting so aim for smaller meals than that. 400/500, 4 or 5 meals a day.

Most stick to a 40/40/20 diet, but it depends on how your body reacts to certain types of foods such as carbs.

At the end of the day, hard work gets you the body you want, you have to work out, and eat healthily. Also, drink plenty of water, cut out carp such as coke, and alcohol.

Control the size of your portions, and make sure you eat your protein, carbs, AND fat. There are healthy fats that the body needs to break down fat. You can get this from eating fish, or just taking the tablets if you don't like fish.

RESEARCH is key, and it is a LIFESTYLE change, otherwise you will just gain it back.

This. Especially the bolded parts. :)

I advise anyone wanting to lose weight AND become a healthy human being to visit forums.johnstonefitness.com and read the faqs in the beginner and losing fat sections. Many people have misconceptions about losing weight but the ways used here are the best for your body (and scientifically correct) No shortcuts, no cheats, just hard work and careful planning. Significant and proper results take time; if you want to lose 10lbs of fat it shouldn't take '3 DAYS!' it should take at least 3 weeks.

Still OT (last time I promise), can you take metformin and be on the pill. With metformin still being effective?
Yes, I would guess so, but don't take my word for it. Metformin increases fertility but not directly.

Bit of info:
"If hyperinsulinemia, due to insulin resistance, truly produces the clinical short and long-term manifestations of PCOS, then treatments that decrease insulin resistance should also decrease hyperandrogenism and restore cyclic menses, alleviating the major cause of infertility associated with PCOS.
[...]
The best therapy is lifestyle modification with weight loss. Weight reduction, improved nutrition, and exercise are behavioral modifications that should be encouraged as first-line therapy for obese PCOS patients. If diet and exercise fail, then medications may be introduced to improve peripheral insulin sensitivity and achieve a reduction in insulin secretion. Some of the oral insulin sensitizing medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of Type II diabetes are metformin (Glucophage) and thiazolidinediones such as rosiglitazone (Avandia) and pioglitazone (Actos).
[...]
There is overwhelming evidence from at least three well performed randomized controlled trials and several cohort studies indicating that when taken with clomiphene citrate, metformin enhances the probability of ovulation and pregnancy. There is controversy over the mechanism of action. Some suggest that these outcomes were due to the weight loss that results when using metformin."

Loads of complicated yet interesting info here: http://www.infertilityspecialist.com/metformin_kutner.html

Never knew that. That's smart though, I like it, might try to remember that rule from now on...

I was thinking about this and was recommended by a friends who is a gym instructor/personal trainer/physio to maintain my weights workout (as these burn calories as well, but add in 2-3 cardio sessions per week as well, to assist.

Does this sound ok to you?

I usually only have a shake after a weights session
You have just described my cutting routine :)

The result have been pretty slow (lost half a stone in 2-3) months, but I seem to have put on some muscle in the process, oddly!

I aim for 2300 calories a day, with a moderate / heavily protein based diet. I have decided that a large stir fri with noodles and chicken is possibly the most balenced meal ever.

What have you been doing to lose the weight so far? Do you exercise or just eat better? I would say something like swimming and/or jogging would probably help.

You could do with losing a couple of stone. Aim for 13.5 stone.

Eat 1500 calories a day until you get there.

Short answer :p

Eat 3 x 450 calorie healthy meals a day and get some exercise and drink lots of water and the weight will come off,try not to eat after 6pm.
