IT helpdesk.

If you come work for my company you'll get 30k + for 1st line support. At the moment I'm basically a receptionist. The desk is 6 big at the mo and the recent new starters have applied through Reed, they seem pretty good for IT related jobs.

And what company? and where are you based?

I did 2nd line support for 7 years, and worked my way up to £14k! This was 8 years ago though. I agree with the others that it doesn't pay well, and I certainly didn't get any bonuses. But it was reasonably rewarding, and it gave me lots of experience. As a result of this I managed to blag the ICT managers job at a school down south and did that for a year, which earnt significantly more, and I got the full school holidays too. You can get lucky!

14K for second line...sucky company :/

I'm on less than £14k and I'm the SysAdmin, Webmaster, Postmaster and the "it's got a light so it's technical" guy of a (vaguely) international company.

Sucks to be me :(

Where do you work? I'm on 16k for anything that has a plug. Mitel system was a right bitch to get my head round.

True. You need a degree in Mitel Phone Engineering to be able to understand most of it. But at least the VoIP ones have a web interface. The old ones need a serial connection and proprietary software.

And I work in a soon-to-be-closed company. We got bought out a few months ago, and they've just announced that we're all canned.

I don't get that, even in a call center I was on 17k, why don't you try and get another job?

Way ahead of you... I've been headhunted by the people that bought my old company. :D

More money and they want specific skills that I apparently have. Win/Win.

Thats good news. Congrats :D

Current company = 18months (Nightfreight)
Old Company = 3years (Powerhouse)

Both Call Centre Team Leaders

Ace, if you're interested send me your CV. Email in trust. Ill pass it on to my HR manager. The firm is based in Birmingham City Centre, which shouldnt be too hard for you as I see youre in walsall.

You should start on a good salary, about 19k+

Something I should tell you though, if you do decide to work here you'll be working for a law firm, and it will be tough and you'll need to be pretty thick skinned. Thats generally the case though for most 1st line roles.

OP good luck with your search, seems some kind gents are really willing to lend you hand here! :)

We've just move don to the whole Mitel shannigans too... about as unintuitive as you get, but once you learn the basics they're alright. Only problem we're having is that because the laptop ethernet connections now rely on the phone, they seem to be screwing up rather more often resulting in numerous phone reboots. Ahh, the sweet smell of progress. Oh well, at least once my branch of the office implements it there'll be no ****ing patching to worry about any more. :D

30k + for 1st line support? Jesus... tell me that's the centre of London please!

I work for a FTSE 100 software house/IT company and it's just not possible to earn that kind of money that far down the ladder.

EDIT: Just to add I'm not in 1st line support thankfully (actually a software dev) but have always found http://www.planetrecruit.com/ (got my current job thru here) and http://www.cwjobs.co.uk very good.

Yeah 30k is beyond the salary band for even a Senior Technical Analyst in my (Also FTSE 100) company... my friend works for an investment bank and has only just been offered 30k and that's bang in the centre of London.

I reset passwords, create users, log calls to our 3rd line people.

Its meant to be 2nd line too but its not. I also have projects I am supposed to do but I spend too much time here to be able to complete them.

you jammy git. 30k+ for that!

nice one CLAWS, nice to see others helping eachother out :)
