Foglights - a lost cause

What and potentially completely dazzle and potentially cause a massive crash?. Two wrongs don't make a right, flashing your fogs is the more sensible route. Foglights are very unlikely to cause an accident as they are so low down. A full high up beam to the face for a good few seconds definetely could

Sweet Jesus. Sarcasm doesn't work well on the Internet does it?

the one thing that annoys me more now is cars with only one headlight working and the working one compensates for the none working one it seems and it's blinding, also there's a dual carriageway on my way to/from work and cars come in the opposite direction at night with full beam on and think it doesn't seem to matter as theres a bit of grass in between me and them.

Rear fog lights can be very annoying - and dangerous on the motorway.

Don't care about about front fogs, they don't dazzle or blind.

Sometimes I worry that OcUK is going down the drain (typically with keyboard warriors and young people as well as ignorant or ill educated people), then we have mature and sensible replies like this that makes me realise it's worth still posting here.

Your faith is stronger than mine ;)

Foglights don't really bother me that much really. What has bothered me over the last couple of weeks is people with 1 headlight insanely brighter than the other one, what's that all about?

Well take it from me, if I say "that'll learn 'em", I'm not being serious :)

Right...

Bri, I've noticed that, and what about the people with only one main beam working and the other fully lit up, that's a little annoying and potentially dangerous, seem to have noticed it a lot recently

In a town or ciry environment fogs arent blinding at all, just an extra set of lights at the front of a car. Its when out in the unlit roads that fogs become a bit more of a hazard, the eyes adjust to the dark so 2 sets of lights are twice as worse as just headlights.

Im not a fog user unless totally needed myself but I dont have a problem with others wanting to use theirs, i certainly dont try and dazzle them with my main beams as that WILL cause accidents.

I just find a little vexing when somebody I've never seen before accuses me of having an 'obsession' with something simply becuase I've posted the odd thread about it :)

It was a thread about foglights not about me. His post was JUST as irrelevant as mine if not more so.

You've all clearly read FAR too much into it. You've yet again seen what you wanted to see rather than what was there :)

The majority I see driving with them on are middle aged men or chavs. You just know they have them on because the majority of drivers have them turned off which makes them stand out giving them the attention they need everytime they are on the road.

I don't mind them though. :)

Agreed, maybe us northern monkeys can't afford new bulbs or something :D

Probably just because we're doing more driving in the dark due to the time of year that it's being noticed more, annoying nontheless though.

Because it makes you look like a rally driver. :/

O RALLY??

Sorry :(

Anyway, I was behind a Fockarse police car belonging to GOSPORT Constabulary today for a few miles and I passed at least 2 cars with their foglights on and the police car in front did absolutely nothing to either flash them or sign them down etc. I assume the police just don't care these days.

I use my front fogs on country lanes along with my main beam. They are invaluable for spotting and dodging potholes.

You perceive them to be invaluable but infact they are not - at the sort of speeds you are travelling anything a foglight illuminates at the side of the road that you wouldnt otherwise have seen will be under your car before you've had time to react.

Not true. I have no issue with you at all, you generally provide well rounded debate with good reasoning.... with a little splash of sarcasm for good measure :p

However, that post was, in my opinion, antagonistic and quite rude. It may not have been how you meant it to be percieved, but read it back as though someone else had written it.

Fair enough. It was a rash spur of the moment post prompted by the 'grrr' I felt from his pointless post, further exasperated by the fact I'd never seen him before. Sorry.

So I've posted two threads on how annoying foglights are in the last year. Big deal. Most GD'ers post 5 threads a week on which socks they should wear. It's on topic for this forum and usually leads to an interesting discussion.

I did get flashed the other day when I had my dipped beams on at dusk, I was like wtf? then I got round the corner and saw a Police patrol car with the speedgun out

I thought they were flahing because of my headlights :p

I have to admit I've used my front fogs on a narrow country road before, in pitch black. It does show up potholes, I was only going 10-15mph.

I never venture into the realms of GD any more, it's just too inane.

Anyway, back on topic, rear foglights do really annoy me, why do people turn them on at the slightest bit of mist then leave them on for the next 3 days? Aaaargh!!!
