Sins of a solar empire - unusually low hardware requirements

sorry if this seems silly but i sat through the tutorials and im sure it never mentioned this.

im currently stuck with one capital ship and a small amount of fighters as i cant work out how to progress through the ranks. it asks for certain numbers of research buildings (which i have) but then asks for "1 point in X" which i cannot find anywhere in the research selections.

When you click on something you don't have the research for it normally highlights it in the research tree when you open it up again.

What sort of game is this? anything like starcraft 2 with space ships? or is it more like eve online?

It can't be like StarCraft because it's got strategy in it!!! :)

Anyway, looks like Galactic Civilizations with some of the Sup Com functionality (massive zoom, millions of units ...)

Not when you're already trying to get £75 back off the thieving buggers it isn't simple and safe.

you've been unlucky and thats understandable your hesitant but your initial sarcastic remark wasn't necessary

if you really want the game that badly, why not give the cash to a friend and get them to purchase it for you ?

This is the best rts I've played in a long time, and defo 4X game ever. It's sucked up over a dozen hours out of me already, and I only bought it 2 days ago, lol. It's not perfect (nothing is) but its well supported/moddable and no doubt will become a classic over time, imo.

Its got similarities with a few things. Homeworld, SupCom and weird as it may sound, Eve :D. Yes, I kinda feel like the head of a big corp in Eve directing all my fleets into battle, but none of the waiting months/years to get all the cool skills :p

In short - a very addictive and deep/challenging game. Me likes!

It completely eats up all my RAM, was using 1.6GB when i had to save and close for the sake of everything running in the background! :(

Hopefully that will do something about it then if its a problem specific to hardware i have. Just have to wait and see.

That was on a 2 player map skirmish btw, ate up all that RAM.

Been playing this tonight whilst at work, not had proper chance to get into it because of call volume lol, but i'm on nights tomorrow, so I should get a proper chance to play it.. quite enjoyed most of it, but for some reason it does remind me of Star Trek: Birth of the Federation... but has elements from Homeworld...

I love using the pirates to take out my enemy. Using this method I own a whole system of about 20 planets in a huge 6 FFA. 5 more systems to fall hehehe so much fun.

I had a look at this last night and did enjoy the 2 hours i played not sure why but loved it and im rather crap at this kinda game.
