I have more issue with these crazily high powered headlight bulbs that people seem to be putting in... come round the corner (particularly up hill) and ARGH my retinas are burning... have to slow down to a near halt while I try to see what the hell is going on :S

I'm with fox on this one, I cant stand people driving with foglights on, and if you think because it doesnt bother you there ok, then thats incredibly narrow minded and selfish.
When i'm driving a my folks 5 series its not such a problem, when i used there freelander they had before that it wasnt a problem at all, but when i'm driving my celica i find it really really hard to see anything at all at night when people are driving towards me, this is getting worse as headlights generally seem to be getting brighter, and if they have there "driving lights" on i almost have to slow to a crawl and hope i can at least see the white lines so i know i'm still on my side of the road. I wonder how many people out there are close to causing accidents with this, its just ignorance tbh.

i dont mind foglights, never been blinded by them
i do find it annoying when people dont drive with their lights on in bright winter sunlight or rain etc.
imo we should just drive with them on all the time anyway as it makes you more visible

I have not ever been blinded by front fogs, I'd say that although I can see some 'technicality' of them being able to blind you, I'd say most of the hate is that people think "having your front fogs on = trying to be cool" which lets face it maybe it once 'was', but now, every car has them (just about) and I don't think a mum in her renault scenic leaving her front fogs on is in an attempt to look 'cool'...
However, surely the big surge in people with after market HIDS is a much more serious issue?
HIDS are bloody bright, but there is a reason that new cars with HIDS have to have self levelling, so as to reduce the effect of dazzling, which lets face it is increased in a car with HIDS, even if they are can pass an MOT.. and are self levelled..
Ask anyone why they have put after market HIDS on, and they always give you the lame excuse "because they are much brighter and let me see further and thus are safer".. I think 1. it's so obviously transparent that they just want to look 'cool' and 2. are being selfish as anything dishing out more light, with everything else being equal is going to cause more dazzling then conventional lights..

Foglights (when they don't need to be used) irritate the **** out of me (as do unnecessarily bright headlights - but that's another subject). They aren't needed and it IS a problem for other drivers (this is not up for debate it's a fact 
). I know it is for me, but then I have a low car. They are either just plain self absorbed and selfish or stupid enough not to pay attention to the lights on their dash.
Even better fun when I have someone with their driving lights on and coming towards me and someone in a 4x4 with super bright HIDs right up behind me. Chances of seeing anything at that point are slim to none. So you slow down and the car behind you feels the need to get even futher up your backside blinding you further

I flash everyone who has fog lights on, s'long as it doesnt annoy any other road user. chuck the high beams on for 20 secs does the trick.

The annoying thing is that when eventually they do blind someone so bad that there is a crash/end up in a ditch. You just KNOW they are the sort of driver that won't even stop or probably even know that they have just caused a RTC. (I refrain from using the word 'accident' because technically it wouldn't be - they would have delibrately caused it by misusing their fog lights)

as NathanE said, while those cars go past him hes basically "out of control" for a few seconds as he cant see where he is going. Accident waiting to happen at 60mph... maybe i should join them and say "ooooh i can see more with these lights on" as i flick full beam on?

After checking the highway code I am now wondering if the fog lights on the misses golf are legal, they light up when turning at low speeds.
Opinion vs opinion
IMO if someone causes a crash because they blinded someone with their fog lights then it was intentional. It's no different to delibrately saving yourself £50 by not getting your car MOT'd and then you crash from a wheel falling off and kill someone...Negligence may be the verdict applied in court...

driving back from holsowrthy is on a very thin road and when people drive it fogs on it does dazzel you and it is difficult to see the side of the road
