just arrived..my personal review of 3870x2

Sent Enermax a request for a 6 pin to 8 pin cable- just arrived! :-D saves me buying one if all new videocards have 8 pin cables. Although won't go as high as a 3870x2, too expensive.

Nothing wrong with the stock x2 cooling imo, the fan does spin up a bit but its nothing insanely loud or over the top. Certainly a ton quieter than the 2900xt.

Can't hear my 3870X2's fan at all, only spins up bit when used in anger and certainly not very loud.
I've just replaced the rivatuner config file and now I've "low level" overclocking. Whats a good overclock point to start at (trying to save a bit of time here:)) ?

That's good to know, the 2900XT was just too much for me. The Gecube one i had my eye on that I mentioned before looks like a non starter as I have now seen a review for it that says it's louder than the reference models.

I might just end up getting the standard one as I've seen a few possible other versions mentioned but none seem to be hitting retail yet.

used riva tuner to turn the fan speed to 100%, the card was really quite cool, i think about 50 to low 40's at load but it sounds like the thing will take off. Having an more sesible auto fan setting would be nice, ill have to see what i can do with riva

Also ran it at 50% and thats just anout noticable but is a lot mroe effective than ati's auto speed

Try 875/1000 , should be ok to start with , i had a bit of trouble as i ticked the box apply setting on windows start up and it kept crashing as i had overdone it a bit.i had to boot last known good settings

updated gpu-z and is now showing crossfire enabled , also went back to xp as having artifacting issues at 1920x1200 res,i love vista for day to day use but it's a right pain in the bum for gaming

batchie - any ideas to why your bandwidth is twice mine ? even with GPU-Z reporting both as crossfire disabled ?

ps I've definately confirmed both GPUs on mine are working using Rivatuner - you can select monitoring of each core separately

each core ramps up to full clock of 850MHz when running Crysis benchmark

I have the MSI card too,and also have same bandwidth as yours

although our pixel fillrate is a lot higher , maybe that a good rreason to get the same make cards for x fire

Mine shows Crossfire Disabled in Vista, and Enabled in XP, both give me same scores and benchies tho, so just looks like GPU-Z is bugged.

I've also just flashed my X2 so that the low power clocks are the same as the full clocks, and it has gotten rid of the random FPS drops I was getting in Crysis and the like (where the card would randomly go into low power mode).

Yay!
