9800 GT is rebadged 8800 GT, just has extra SLi conector for Tri.

On the upside this should give some breathing room for ATI to stop rushing and mature drivers a bit, the RV770 is on par with expectations of new gen performance and is set for Q2 08. And with the CrossfireX seemingly linking 3650s,3850s and 3870s and presumeably the HD4xxx series, I might be tempted to get a 3870XT for CrossfireX on a X38 board and wait for a HD4870XT to join it. Just a thought, though NVIDIA isnt under any presure to release better hardware, they already own the top end - they need to secure the mainstream. Its where the $$$ is, and ATI have it sewn up, specially with the upcomming 3800 series price drops. OEM's would be silly to do anything else except offer 3850's.
 
Lol, this kinda fits.

nVidia released an entirely new technology (G92) and called it exactly the same as the old technology in all the 8800 series cards.

So why cant they go the oposite route and launch and entirely new name on exactly the same technology...
 
as long as the 9800GT performs 30-50% faster than the 8800GT then it will be a worthy sucessor...as long as it doesnt cost more than £200...

whether its a re badged whatever doesn't make any difference as long as it performs as it should do for the price point.

itll perform identical with the current plan of rebadge it but add one extra connector.

Eh, the G92 is is not new tech, its still the old 2006 8800 tech, thats why they were called 8800's, we aint gona see any new tech for months yet, be sometime after the 9 series. :confused:

Oh come off it, ATI are just as bad, remember all those rebadged Radeon cards they came out with...

Radeon 7000 = Radeon VE
Radeon 7200 = Radeon SDR/DDR
Radeon 9100 = Radeon 8500

...and probably a few other low/midrange parts I've forgotten about.

Intel doesn't really have decent competition either but you see them still releasing their 45nm CPUs to compete against their own older 65m cores (albeit ever so slightly delayed, but not taking the **** like nVidia is).
 
Guess for Nvidia its just money, 99% folk walking brainless in a store and just gonna get the 9800 series anyhow ;)

No doubt this rebadging will just make Nvidia a lot of money, but they why has it take over a year just to do that...

I reckon Nvidia just holding back there good new technology now, no reason to release it is there.

Other sites have also been reporting that the 9800GTX is going to be G92 as well - here

And the 9800GX2 is also G92 :D We're stuck with 1st gen DX10 tech for a while methinks.
