the forum and swearing

With regard to links which aren't particularily offensive in themselves, such as YouTube vids, I think I good policy to have would be for the person posting the link to issue some sort of a warning, "Link may contain swearing" etc.

Obviously linking to pages that are unambiguously crude or offensive should be frowned upon but I think some sort of warning system for mild cases should be implemented since it gets hard to moderate, and makes things quite restrictive when sharing other sites/media. It's like a case of where do you draw the line - you could link to a page with no swearing which has a link to a page which is full of it :)

That then means that the person linking to the site knows there's swearing in the link, bringing a suspension that little closer :)

And with the dynamic nature of the internet you can post a link to a clean page that 2 mins later is full of obscenities!

Sorry, I actually worded that wrong, I meant if there is a couple of little swear words on a page, you could link to it provided it you gave warning.

I didn't mean to say "may".

The part of me which has a sufficiently good command of the english language to articulate what I mean without resorting to swearing.

that's such a ridiculous way of putting it. I have a great grasp of the language, but that doesn't automatically mean that I don't swear. I love swearing; it's so fun!

This has been quite an interesting discussion so far with a decent exchange of opinions but some of the children are using it to push the boundaries. This will eventually lead to suspensions or the thread being closed and it would be a great pity for either to happen.

As a rule of thumb, if you have to add a caveat along the lines of "Please edit if not allowed", it's probably wiser not to post the word(s) in question. Pointing out that you are aware that the word(s) is/are borderline will be unlikely to save you from a suspension if they happen to be the wrong side of the line.

Keep it clean guys :)

Oh dear, So many sheltered lives ruined! :D

Seems kinda obvious to me, If you can make out what the word is supposed to be, Then it shouldn't be used.

****ing could be anything, Obviously certain people see it as a certain word, But that's using the powers of you mind.

I was ****ing all morning... I got a 12incher, And it was awesome.

Now what the word is there, is Fishing! You see? Dirty minds, Can make any starred out word worse than it is...

Am I allowed to use my own made-up cockney rhyming slang-style swearwords, or will the OCUK language Gestapo get on my case?

If I am allowed, then may I be the first to say that you are all a bunch of merchants.

According to your user notes you haven't. Every time somone is suspended, a record is left on their usernotes. For a usernote not to have been left a "cupple" of times is highly unlikely. I can only conclude that you are lying.

Why would I lie about being suspended? :\. Blimey :s.

Just back after a weeks ban for swearing. Wish I had seen this post prior to the ban or I had taken the time to read the rules on it. :(

Can we see these (as in our own)? I got suspended once for swearing, but I'm fairly sure it was a first offence.

Just curious is all...

d**king would earn you a holiday
****ing doesnt

simple ?

Perfectly. For your next trick, could you clarify the tricky S****horpe question? ;)

Also, can I assume that mother****ing is a big no-no?

So many rules, so many potential loopholes. :p
