Serenity.

Just have to echo the comments above - the series is brilliant, I've watched it several times now and never ceased to enjoy it through and through.

Was a real real shame that they ended it so soon, and from what I've read there aren't any plans currently to continue the series although Joss has said he does have ideas for what he wanted to do with it so it *could happen* :)

It's the bloody networks that ruin these shows, all they are after is the viewer figures, and if said show doesn't bring in the millions of viewers in its first few episodes (which were shown in the wrong order :/) then they deem it a failure ...

Whereas Firefly has now built up a HUGE fanbase that I can't see Fox (or whoever it was that axed it) ignoring forever!

What I love is that they got Adam Baldwin to host "Done the Impossible: The Fans' Tale of 'Firefly' and 'Serenity'" ... which shoes that even the actors are that interested in the whole idea of the series that they'll support it even if they're not making anymore for the foreseeable future.

I can happily sit through Firefly just to watch the engineer lass :p

Enjoyed the film Serenity as well (which I came across first) - real suprise and found it very engaging and some good laugh out loud moments. Very engaging characters too :)

"I could stand here a little longer"

:D

Morena Baccarin is waayyy hotter imo. Whedon does have a knack of creating good characters, such a shame it had come to an end.

She was a minx all right!

From memory, which isn't that great, the bit that got the biggest laugh from me was:

JAYNE: “I don’t know these folks. Don’t much care to.”
MAL: “They’re whores.”
JAYNE: “I’m in.”

From the episode where they have to defend the whore house. Just tickled me. :D:p

Also, i thought Early (the assassin in one of the last episodes) was a quality character, preferred him to The Operative from Serenity i think (similar characters i suppose!).

Heart of Gold, I think it was

That was a funny line, summed up Jayne really well

I love it in the last episode when Jayne's sleeping and he hears the ruckus upstairs, you think he's going for the gun but instead he just graps the sheet and turns over!!

see i thought firefly was pretty pants =/ Maybes it could have bennefited from having some money thrown at it and being made into a mini-series, i just found it fairly unappealing and slow though really... I guess as a series its got nothing on BSG.. hence the harsh criticism

I dunno.

I've gotten into BSG, but I find it much slower than Firefly was, took the whole of season 1 to get my properly hooked, which Firefly managed in 3 episodes.

You did make sure to watch it in the correct order (read: not the order the episodes were actually aired in) right?

well the episodes i have were not exactly 'aired' :)
I think i watched it in the correct order, I dont know there was just something I didnt really like about the characters.. I thought the captain was poor, and jayne was a bit of a silly stereotype. They struck me as bland without any real personality.

Even after 3 seasons of BSG I still feel like I know the characters of firefly better. I just seemed to attach to them more. BSG I watch, and enjoy, but to be honest wouldn't really of cared had it been cancelled in s1.

Firefly I know isn't to everyones tastes, as its not really about the sci fi aspects, but rather the characters, but for me thats what makes the show.

And you can get the series boxset of firefly for less than £20, so I would reccomend it to even people who haven't got into the show through its TV run or through serenity. Give the show a go, and chances are you'll get into it.

Totally agree, they are all very personable. BSG - i don't really care much for the characters but it's fun to watch. And you actually get can the Firefly boxset for £12 if you know where to look.

No-one does character development like Joss Whedon. I love Battlestar Galactica but Joss gave his characters more depth in 12 episodes and a film than any of the characters in 4 series of BSG.

In this day and age Star wars is great for nothing more than watching the storm trooper bang his head on the bulkhead and wondering just how the hell Lucas managed to screw up the later episodes so badly.
The modern episodes drag the classic movies so far down into the muck it's not even funny.

Firefly & Serenity is quite an oddity, it's elicits a response similar to marmite, either you empathise with the characters and love it or you think it is just a bunch of cowboys in space.

BSG: I lost interest pretty quickly with BSG, count the filler episodes of BSG and then try the same with firefly...

Bring on more of the browncoat 'verse!

This is the only comic I have ever bought as an adult....
