New Car - BMW M5 (E39)

Running cost were more than reasonable for me. The only time it "stung" me was when I replaced all 4 tyres then got 2 none repairable punctures on the back within 1000 miles or so. Can't really blame the car for that though

Pre-facelift cars can be a bit of a 'mare, but post face-lifts are strong cars. Not meaning to jinx you Peter

My commute round trip came out at 21.2 MPG.... not too bad really given the rush hour traffic

The steering feels perfect to me, but then given i'm used to nice wafty barges I might not be the best person to comment

M5 has recirc ball, but it is an upgraded version of the 540 setup - has some trickery which sorts out the vague dead-ahead position that recirc ball setups normally suffer from.

Joking apart, I'm very surprised to read an e39 M5 is better on the commute (thus far) than either of your cars.

Thats the whole point of the M5 - a Wolf in Sheeps (sorry Fox) clothing - something BMW have forgotten a bit with the e60 imo.
