As title, any programms that clock both cores ?
If I use Overdrive I think it only clocks one core ??

Overdrive does both.

Rivatuner only clocks 1.

ATitool only clocks 1.

The only tool I know of that clocks both is the AMDGPUtool.

Overdrive does both, but you have to select both cores from the drop down menu. AMD GPU Clock Tool is what I use to clock both cores, I also use rivatuner to control my X2's fanspeed.:)

Ok, I only see one core in the drop down menu ?

3870X2Autotune.jpg

so I can't choose both cores.

Also the screen goes white for a long time....I thought it was locked so I hit Reset.
When I went back into Overdrive, I see it had upped the Core MHZ, so I clicked Test Custom Clocks, the screen then went black with horizontal lines.....I guessed this wasn't good and reset again.
I m doing something fundamentally wrong here ??

Well stone me if you don't learn summat new every day. I've jus selected the drop down menu (the one directly next to the padlock symbol), raised the core up to 850, tested and it passed, then selcted the second option in the same drop down menu and lo and behold, the core dropped down to stock. Switching between the two options deffo shows the clock of both cores individually.
I thought when you overclocked anything using CCC it automatically upped both cores and memory, this shows it does one at a time, and you have to select the second core/memory option. Also if you switch between the core, I've found that the temp goes from 54c for one core and 70c ish for the other core, its as if for desktop useage, only one core is used. Now this might/probably is common knowledge for a lot of ppl here, but I certainly didn't know this.

I had noticed this as well quite recently, it also applies to Rivatuner as well, as if you click the drop down arrow and select the second card (it lists 4) and try and set the clock, it will stay momentarily but will then drop down to the lower speed.

Also if you switch between the core, I've found that the temp goes from 54c for one core and 70c ish for the other core,

That is because the first core is cooled better due to it being right next to the fan, the 2nd core has the hot air from the 1st core blowing over it, and less airflow in general.

This switching doesn't hapen on mine, I just get the same clock no matter which I choose from the menu next to the padlock.
I am running Cat 8.2....you on 8.3 ?
Perhaps this might explain it ??

I have managed to manually slide the clocks to Core 870 MHz and Mem 955 MHz and it passes ATI tool for 30 minutes no errors, but my 3D06 score really doesn't improve...maybe I am only upping one core ?

I am a little reluctant to go back to Cat 8.3 as it produced some nasty flickering during COD4 when flash nades were used.

I get that same thing in CSS, though it happened with the 8.2s as well though

If not then i am tempted to go back to the 8.2s as it is very annoying having the whole screen flicker like it is trying to give me an epileptic fit.

yep, on 8.3 here. Saying that, I don't honestly believe that overclocking these cards with CCC really makes a load of difference. I gained all of 3 fps when running the crysis benchie. I reckon if you could get both cores and memory higher then yes, it'd be worth it, but imho 878/950 isn't really high enough to make a difference. Also AMDGPU tool doesn't work on me system at all, so thats a no go too.

It's not that it's not high enough, it's because you're most probably CPU limited. I'm on cat 8.3s my self, and when I overclock my X2, the "benefits" are small in 3D mark 06 at 1280x1024, but when I play games at my native res of 1920x1200 the gains are more obvious. Overclocking your CPU more will benefit you more too. I don't get any issues with COD4, no flickering or anything, that's with everything on max + 4AA.

In the grand scheme of things with the Crysis benchmark, 3 fps isnt that bad if you're only getting a low frame rate anyway (not saying you are, just hypothetically speaking).

Like i said in the other x2 thread, i am gonna try and do the BIOS flash tonight and see if i get any joy there and see where i can get the clocks to.

One problem i did run into was that at the max overclock for CCC, running a fixed fan speed of 35%, i think the card overheated as it came up no signal so i had to restart.

Well I've tried running with an overclock of 3.2ghz and now at 3.8ghz and quite frankly it wasn't worth doing 'cos I couldn't see any difference in the framerate anyway. If the fps was constant then I'd probably would see an improvement, but considering the fps go up and down like no-ones business, its difficult to see any improvement anyway. Bearing in mind the only game I have any probs with is crysis, and everyone has a prob with that. All others, especially COD4 run like a charm.

Thing is I personally don't play benchies, I use them as a tool to se if me system hardware/software is running at optimal settings and ok, and for comparisons with everyone else. Once thats been done I don't use them again till I change/replace another component or software.:)
As I said earlier, in game (crysis) I don't notice any tangible difference when raising me overclock on the cpu or vidcard so I leave the cpu set at a sort of midpoint and go with that. Wrt the 3870x2, I don't think its wirth me trying to overclock it 'cos I honestly believe I can't get the clocks high enough to make a difference worth keeping. If there was tool for overclocking the core/ memory to about 925-950mhz/1000mhz, that'd work on me system and clock both cores with reasonable temps and would raise the fps to a level that enabled smoother gameplay, it'd be worth doing.

amd gpu tool needs a updated file to overclock, i think in general you can find links for it around, though i think the article on overclocking the X2 on vr-zone has links to modded config for both amdgputool and rivertuner.

Now thats good to know. If these apps work, then maybe it might be worth overclocking me X2.:)

What are you classing AMDGPU tool ?
ATi Tool ?

Sorry if thats a noob question :o

YES!! ME too! I thought I was the only one :) :D:p

So...anyway to reduce it from your end?
