are great films a thing of the past?

i find new films i buy or rent i only watch one time because the story is the same old crap but with good effects, for instance i am legend was a complete copy of 28 days later which i thought was better.

lol. :p

I am Legend came before 28 days later.

I love the terminator films, I am always watching terminator 2 (I have way too many copies of that film).

Do you like fightclub? I think that is rewatchable.

Yeah fightclub was a very good film and one I would watch again (if I have neough hours in the day). Another of the better films that I watched in the last couple of years was million dollar baby, but again I don't think I would watch it more than once/twice.

i thought blood diamond was good, watched it again earlier actually. Anything with LdC generally kicks ass though, yet to see him in a bad film.

loved the bourne trilogy, but anything ive seen lately has been carp, jumper, cloverfield, the bank job, i am legend, they just arnt very good and wouldnt watch any of them again.

Breakfast club is great.

Anyway, recentish films:
Fight Club
The Prestige
I actually thought "Mr Brooks" was an excellent film.
The Green Mile
Big Fish
Matrix
Lord of the Rings
3:10 to Yuma

I think Denzel Washington films all seem to be of high quality, although some people hate them: John Q, Man on Fire, American Gangster, Manchurian Candidate

A few of them are 1999. And not all of them are what you may describe as great films but all of them are very enjoyable.

Lately I thought
Juno was good, wouldn't call it great though.
No country for old men was great but I think it could have been better.
Rambo was excellent, got exactly what i wanted from it.
Superbad, very good..wouldn't say "great" though
Rocky Balboa - dissapointing

Forgot this one and its definitely a classic The Departed...

Japanese trilogy its based on is also class.

2 things wrong with that post

1 - The Departed is not a classic, it's a remake. The original is a classic, hell, it's only like 6 years old movie !

2 - It's made in Hong Kong, not Japan.

Martin Scorsese remade Infernal Affair almost scene by scene, watch the original and then the Departed and then you'll see that the entire movie was literally plugged out of HK into NY. It feels like he got someone did the translation and then shot it in a different location. All the scenes felt the same, the order of the scenes are the same, some of the set up in the scene is identical (Roof top meetings, which is not as thrilling as the building is not as high as the original), the elevator scene, the shootouts, even some camera angles are identical. MS is a great director but my opinion of him dropped a few points after the Departed. The guy just copied way too much of the original, didn't really try to make it his own.

As for not enough good films lately, people people. Think about it, you are pointing out movies like...lets see

Breakfast Club
Godfather 1,2 (trilogy ????? Not many people would say the 3rd is a "classic" )
Shawshank.

So that's 3 movies, from 1973 (? or there about) to 1990. 27 years, and only 3 classics, and then you went and name like a dozen other ones you like from the last 12 months..........:p see where I am going here.

Anyway, back to my point. Good films are still being made today, it's just that you were not alive in the 70's and too young in the 80's to realise how many crap films they put out back then and you never saw. You just go to see the cream of the crop. Where now you are old enough to see more movies therefore you think there are more junk then back in the old days, except you were too young in the old days. Get what i am saying at?

hi

i love watching films , but of late all new films ive watched have not been as good as i expected, i love films with a good story and something i can watch again and again.

i did not think much of i am legend and no country for old men was a bit slow going.

is there any new films out there that are worth a watch ?

cheers

Just wait for "The Dark Knight" it's by Christopher Nolan so it'll be SUPARR!

If you can't wait till then (june) check out Memento and The Prestige, I personally can watch those films over and over :)
