Forgot this one and its definitely a classic The Departed...
Japanese trilogy its based on is also class.
2 things wrong with that post
1 - The Departed is not a classic, it's a remake. The original is a classic, hell, it's only like 6 years old movie !
2 - It's made in Hong Kong, not Japan.
Martin Scorsese remade
Infernal Affair almost scene by scene, watch the original and then the Departed and then you'll see that the entire movie was literally plugged out of HK into NY. It feels like he got someone did the translation and then shot it in a different location. All the scenes felt the same, the order of the scenes are the same, some of the set up in the scene is identical (Roof top meetings, which is not as thrilling as the building is not as high as the original), the elevator scene, the shootouts, even some camera angles are identical. MS is a great director but my opinion of him dropped a few points after the Departed. The guy just copied way too much of the original, didn't really try to make it his own.
As for not enough good films lately, people people. Think about it, you are pointing out movies like...lets see
Breakfast Club
Godfather 1,2 (trilogy ????? Not many people would say the 3rd is a "classic" )
Shawshank.
So that's 3 movies, from 1973 (? or there about) to 1990. 27 years, and only 3 classics, and then you went and name like a dozen other ones you like from the last 12 months..........

see where I am going here.
Anyway, back to my point. Good films are still being made today, it's just that you were not alive in the 70's and too young in the 80's to realise how many crap films they put out back then and you never saw. You just go to see the cream of the crop. Where now you are old enough to see more movies therefore you think there are more junk then back in the old days, except you were too young in the old days. Get what i am saying at?
