Therefore, you have to be 18 to see someone smoke... in real life.
NOPE.... as you can have sex at 16, but you cannot watch sum1 have sex in a hardcore pron film till your 18!
Smoking in movies is one of my pet hates especially when its done by people who don't smoke.
Its the one thing I pick up on straightaway :
You see an actor/actress with a fag on, they move it towards their mouth, camera switches angles, goes back to original actor who is now putting their smoking hand down.
Its so obvious that they are pretending to smoke so that the film makers are paid by the sponsors.
While I'd agree the idea is stupid (and that is me being polite) can we not blame it on PC please? It isn't about political correctness, it is an anti-smoking group with an (obvious) axe to grind.
Quoting my own post:
I'm watching Deep Impact now and two women are talking to each other over a table.
The older one has got a pretend cigarette she's using as a prop.
This is what I want banning.
Completely irrational. Having a character smoke makes a statement about their personality/mentality.
Indeed, what would be slightly more effective (but still totally stupid) would be if they were to legislate that all people smoking in newly created films must be portrayed as complete losers.
Though with the welfare state we've got at the moment.. The kids might still find that something to aspire to![]()
In his 1972 book Rendezvous with Rama, before Rama appears, one of the main character's job is digitally retouching old films to remove all signs of smoking.Wasn't there an Arthur C Clarke short story about this?
In the real world though nobody gives a **** if the guy next to them is smoking or not... its the politically correct people that have drummed up the idea that people really hate smokers and have gotten them sent outside
Completely irrational. Having a character smoke makes a statement about their personality/mentality. You can't expect writers to have to avoid this just because the actor doesn't smoke IRL. Next you'll be telling me actors shouldn't be allowed to play murderers unless they have previously killed someone.
It is.Smoking should be over 18s though,
What about computer games then? I was thinking the other day when playing TF2 as the spy, he smokes, how long before we don't see that kind of thing?
PK!
