Which would you have?

i'd take one of these.. they're stunning

I'd go for either:

335i
or
Evo X

Depending on whether I wanted something poised, with great driver involvement, a great engine note and very impressive performance.

Or the sheer point+shoot, high powered, ultra-grippy, "throw it into a corner without thinking" handling & grip, "drive it like i stole it" Evo.

(And this is coming from a hardcore Evo fan)

I had the same budget and the same short list of cars.

I went with the 335i in the end. It’s a nice enough car, not all that exiting but very Comfortable and fairly rapid

I think the 335i M Sport is looking like the winner here and will be placed on the top of my buying list, I currently have an Audi TT 225 which has ok performance and ok handling but not great, I only brought it because it was going for the right price (4 grand less than it was worth) and looks very good imo but thought that it was time to get something newer and hopefully better.

Would you be able to get a Cayman for this budget?

I was thinking of putting that on the list but my friend who has a 911 keeps telling me how expensive it is to own a Porsche with high servicing costs and having to pay hundreds for a tyre when he got a puncher the other day, I think that it may be more than I can reasonably afford in the long term.

335i although 335d is tempting given the fuel price.

Fox is right about their values, a £15k one is very similar to a new one.

Err meant about 350z doh

not to pick at you - as you're not the only one to think that way - but it always makes me laugh when people spend that much on a motor with a big engine but then go diesel for the economy.

if i could afford a £30k car i'm pretty sure i could afford the poor fuel consumption that comes with it. ;)

i can't (as Fox keeps pointing out :p) hence why i do have a diesel that does silly mpg. :)

306bhp doesnt do that to you I guess

depends on how it's delivered.

i know it's TT but i get the kick from insanely quick turbos. the 335i is supposed to be so good you wouldn't know it's turboed.... which suggests N/A like performance curve and hence to me - boring.

quick yes... very quick.

but.... i love the turbo rush. :) I am a performance nut as opposed to lover of everything subtle and understated.

some people prefer the quick seamless acceleration BMW offer... some want it with a bit more character.

I would suggest you might be suprised here are the servicing costs for a Cayman or Cayman S.

Minor service every 20,000 miles or 2 years £412
Major service every 40,000 miles or 4 years £559

Replace spark plugs every 60,000 miles or 4 years £135
Check drive belt every 40,000 miles or 4 years £52
Replace drive belt every 60,000 miles or 6 years £79
Change manual transmission oil every 120,000 miles or 12 years £132
Change Tiptronic S ATF and ATF filter every 120,000 miles or 12 years £617
Change brake fluid every 2 years £121
Replace tyre sealant on Tyre Pressure Monitoring every 4 years £37

And some of the consumables for a Cayman, Cayman S is much the same.

Front brakes (pads) £339
Front brakes (discs and pads) £610
Rear brakes (pads) £278
Rear brakes (discs and pads) £572
Geometry check and adjustment £233
Replacement windscreen wiper blades £51
Replacement battery £275

So not as much as you might expect...

Front brakes (pads) £339
Rear brakes (pads) £278
Replacement battery £275

everything on that list sounds fairly reasonable and about the same as a mid priced new car.

except the above.....

how can they justify those prices for brake pads?!?

i'm assuming these are ceramic and not the normal pads?!

I would say £275 is a little steep for a Battery :)

I do agree that the rest of the servicing costs don't look much more than what I am paying now for my Audi.

They are not ceramic simply exceptionally good steel brakes and OEM pads I think from the Pagid stable actually.
