Xbox360 Controller - The Best or big failure?

The Wii controller is the best of the current generation, after having your hands wherever you like to play a game sticking them a few inches apart seems a bit backwards. Although the 360 controller is one of the best gamepads I've used.

The PS2/3 controllers are shockingly bad, I actually found the Dreamcast controller had better comfort levels.

The Xbox360 controller is, for me, the very best controller ever made. I don't understand where the stories of it being a failure have come from?
If the PS3 had the Xbox360's controller I'd buy every game on that.

Personally for me I prefer the PS pad. The 360 pad is compfier but I prefer the size, thumbs being in sync, d-pad n buttons. I find the LB n RB buttons on the 360 pad not very accessible. I hate playing Pro or FIFA on the 360 pad! I find I get sores on the top of my fingers where they rub the back of the controller after prolonged use of the 360 pad.

Its all down to what your use to at the end of the day, completely opnion based!

its got a shash DPAD, i thought that was common knowledge though? i dont care, there's not much i use my 360 pads for that require a precision dpad

Oh come on mate, does every constructive critisism that the 360 gets have to be from a "MS hater"?

Its not that its criticism, just the general tone of the article is childish and clearly biased. Stuff like:

"You must know where to buy this special "doesn't suck" package. "

"If it's unnecessary, why is there one on every other controller on the market? One that works?"

"works ten times better than the one that came with your $400 system. Where is your god now?"

"So what's it going to be, Microsoft? Nintendo replaced countless Wiimote straps even though there was nothing wrong with them. Sony put rumble in the Sixaxis. It's your turn, *******."

That doesn't read like a unbiased article at all, read like someone who clearly hates MS.

One point of note... why in the heck is linking to sites like that allowed (with a huge amount of swearing) but linking to sites like Zero Production not?

Simply because one is video and the other is text should not be an argument.

Either way, DPad wise I don't particularly care for it. It's not implemented that well on the 360 pads, but I don't use it often enough to be bothered by it.

Generally I think the 360 pad is the best gamepad I've used. Its extremely comfortable, the trigger buttons are superb (I think the PS pads could learn from that) and... well I just generally like it a lot :o

I always thought the PS pads were the bees knees when they came out, when I bought a 360 I quickly changed my mind.

Like Nanoman said though, it's all down to personal preference... there really is no definitive answer to whether it's crap or brilliant.

The whole argument is the DPad, not the controller itself. I believe the thread title is somewhat miss leading.

Gotta agree with you mate, I got a very similar impression from it.

It wasn't a very good article at all. His entire argument seemed to stem from the fact that Microsoft made a DPad that was different to everyone else, and didn't go into any details on why the DPad was poor other than he himself didn't like it.

I still turn my night vision on rather than call in a UAV on COD4 due to the crappy Dpad. Other than that it is very good, easily the best I have used

The 360 pads shape destroys the PS1 pad design completely. I dislike the poor bumpers, dpad and wireless technical faults though. The next MS pad should be brilliant.

Did nanoman write that article?

Can't say I've had much problem with the Dpads but then I don't play many fighting games.

I would rate the Gamecube pad above anything else, they were excellent... then the 360.

The 360 has a good controller, but I much prefer the Dual Shock 3, I think that is a far better controller.

Just a personal preference.

Scort.

Iwas a hardcore PS2 pad fan and very sceptical about the 360 controller originally, but it is definitely by far and away the best controller ive ever used. But again, the d-pad is dodgy, but i never use it anyway.

It's the most ergonomic controller, but the d-pad, bloody Christ in a fish basket, it's awful. I'm buying Soul Calibur, Tekken, Street Fighter, etc etc all on the PS3 just because the 360's d-pad is made of faggotry and fail. Sometimes I don't know if the d-pad is doing what I want it to. I often use the analog stick instead for menu navigation now, it's that bad.

I love the 360's pad, no problems with it whatsoever but I rarely/never use the D-pad so I can't really comment on that. I can't understand why there's any great need for a D-pad on controllers these days anyway.

As for it being the best ever - maybe, but I'm a big fan of the Dreamcast controller, it just seemed to sink into my hands.

Also an excellent pad but there was always something lacking in the triggers I thought, took too long to use or something.

I liked the positioning of the triggers on the gamecube pad but the analogue sticks felt awful to move.
