There really isn't much to it at the end of the day. Hybrid sleep is a combination of standard S3 sleep, and S4 hibernation. When there is power available, the PC will be in 'sleep', when you pull the plug, it will hibernate. Nothing more nothing less. No magic power sensors either...
Either way, when in 'sleep', the PC is very definately using power.
