Hybird maybecome the "turn off" replacement

Not trying to be anything :)

There really isn't much to it at the end of the day. Hybrid sleep is a combination of standard S3 sleep, and S4 hibernation. When there is power available, the PC will be in 'sleep', when you pull the plug, it will hibernate. Nothing more nothing less. No magic power sensors either... ;) Either way, when in 'sleep', the PC is very definately using power.

I know that but as per Title (guess its to do with being green), there would be no downside to flicking power switch OFF overnight and everything will be open on resume next day apart from you will be Logged out of Win Live MSG or Sim. :)

So its does not need have power, not saying at stage1 of 2 it doesnt need or use power. (stage 1 being Memory and stage 2 being HDD) as it writes to both anyhow when you choose Hybrid Sleep.

If you want it faster and dont care about powerloss or green issues (I dont really) then choose Sleep. ;)

I daresay you're gonna be logged out of WLM anyway. You can't stay logged in when there's no power to the CPU, surely?

Anyway, what tim80bwi has been saying is right. helmutcheese, I'm not sure where you got the information that Windows Vista can't hibernate, because it certainly can!

That's because as soon as you turn the power off, the PC is effectively in hibernation.

You are telling me 2 things I already know stated above.

At the end of the day Hybrid Sleep does not need power, but does use it untill you pull power.

Your buddy is trying to say it uses and needs power, he is right it uses power but does not need as the HDD will resume it so he is half right.

If that was the case it would be Sleep and Hybrid Sleep would not be needed.

I have already stated where I get my info, and its not from Google or Wiki.

So what does the Hibernate button do

There is no Hibernate button in Vista, there is a Menu with:

3 Buttons :

1) Power Button in Start menu (not same as Case Power Button where you can set what its to do)

2) Lock Button

3) The Button with Triangle that lets you choose from a Menu.

i) Switch User

ii) Log Off

iii) Lock

iii) Restart

iiii) Sleep

iv) Shut Down

I cant be bothered making sceenies here : http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/erwyn/archive/2006/11/25/Windows-Vista-Hibernate-Mystery.aspx

If you want to use Old Hibernate you need go in to Advanced Power Options and set the Button (1) to that.

I see no real reason to go backwards and use Hibernate as Hybrid Sleep has basically replaced it.

Less of the Noob lamer ok ?.

I do not have that by default and nor does the above screens.

I guess it goes there after you change the BUTTON or set Hybrid SLEEP OFF, but as I said I see no point in changing it from defaults as they suit me.

1. you can set this to do what you want.

Unless i'm missing something, with a laptop hybrid sleep eats battery, seems like a good reason to use hibernate to me.

Your only missing in manners with n00b calling.

I do not have a lappy or care for them, my post all along is Hybrid sleep (nothing else) does not need power but does use it till you remove the power).

And you have just stated "you can set it to what you want" but by default it wont show that, it will be exactly the same as the screenie in the post above.

Its just sleep with a backup. With a laptop hibernate is best. Obviously hybrid is meant for office use, where standby saves power, and if there is a power cut, there is no UPS needed to keep the power flowing. Means you can keep documents / programs open without having to worry.

My shut down menu had hibernate by default, not hybrid sleep. But i disabled it since it doesnt like hibernate.

Is that on a Lappy, as that would point to Vista installs it like that if Lappy and not on Desktop (for me anyhow (installed as Vista-SP1 slipstreamed not updated).
