Usually we buy whichever car the reps want within reason, but one really doesn't care so we need.

  • Saloon
  • Diesel
  • Less than 1 year old
  • Low running costs
  • "low" depreciation, retain the most value after 3yrs/70k
  • Be from a mass market manufacturer
  • Less than 12k.
Basically the car that will retain the most value will be best :D

Any ideas which to go fo?

I'm not sure what for 12K is going to fall into that category though. Perhaps a Honda Accord, or a Passat or osmething

I dont know a lot, but I cant think of much which is less than one year old, be a saloon AND a diesel, being less than 12k let alone have low depreciation. Maybe if you changed it to a hatchback? They will probably have better residuals no? And you'd get a good trim level for the price.
 
Go with the Accord 2.2 diesel. With the new model due this year second hand ones are starting to come down to a reasonable price.

Passat would be my second choice
 
I think it's a Passat my mate has just got, Lovely motor. It'll take the miles & the abuse & will return good money with fairly high miles when it comes to selling it.
 
There is a simple problem here.

You want a diesel repmobile saloon, Mondeo/Passat sized. Fair enough. Thats fine so far.

You want to pay £12k. Again, not a problem

You want it to be 1 year old. Yup, that can be done as well.

You want low depreciation. Erm, hello? If its 1 year old and only 12k then given most cars of this type are £16-20k new, it's not going to be low depreciation. All the low depreciation cars won't be £12k at 1 year old.

Suck up the depreciation and buy a Mondeo or something.

very very true

how on earth are you planning on finding a car thats only worth 12k after a year that doesnt depreciate ?

the very reason why it costs 12k after only a year is BECAUSE it depreciates !
 
It's not low depreciation, but lowest depreciation, I think the best option will be a VW something, as they are always popular.
 
Citroen C5? You could pick up a 1 yr old at auction with the 2.0 16v HDI engine in for under 10k even cheaper with the 1.6 HDI, ok it will depreciate heavily but as it will cost a fair bit less than the alternatives in the 1st place it should balance out quite nicely.
