EA being big-headed ? Never!

With the recent purchase of Bioware/Pandemic, and the possible Take2 takeover, they may possibly do it.

I know EA bashing is popular, but I for one would have less games to play if they weren't around.

No games company is perfect, and there have been dodgy EA games, but they have also done some great ones. (BF2, Crysis, Fifa, C&C ... do I need to say more?) Oh and Battlefield Heroes could be good (although 3rd pers view doesn't excite me)

PS - I don't work for EA nor do I own any stock.

EA is primarly a publisher:
- who fully owns these studios (Dice, Westwood, EA sports, Bioware, Pandemic, Criterion, Black Box ...) in other words they own the IPs and are responsible for the output.
- and distributes third party titles (Valve's Orange Box, Crytek - not even sure that EA doesn't even have a stake in Crytek. Without EA there is no way Crytek would have done Crysis, no other publisher would have risked a PC only title that costs so much, not even Ubi)

Exactly. I can't wait for FIFA 2009, I'm sure it'll be completely different to all the others.

I guess Konami is different with PES. People obviously want these. If you don't then don't buy it. What is the problem with this? should these companies cater to your individual needs and design a whole game for one person? Unfortunately that is a delusion.

PS - actually FIFA 08 was a major improvement over previous FIFA, even now considered by some to be an actual contender to PES (which hasn't evolved as much).

EA...is hardly the best company ive played games with.

I am not saying that it is, but it could be a contender since they have revised their corporate strategy.

I just don't find it objective to just dismiss them as rubbish and rant (not specifically you :))

Just saying they deserve a little more respect than they get.

EA rock, some of the best games I've played in the last year or so have either been made by them or published by them. I've been very critical of them in the past, but they've really stepped up recently. Skate was amazing, FIFA 08 was vastly superior to the bland PES this year (maybe time to, actually improve the game Konami?) and I loved Crysis.

I beg to differ when i hear the phrase "EA makes great games!"

Lets hope their quality improves but i still will never hold them as a benchmark for quality games.

Crysis was funded be Crytek.

Dice/Bioware/Pandemic have not been owned long enough or havnt release enough games to see what quality of title they will release.

If they started supporting MOHAA and implemented punkbuster I might be interested until then they are the scurge of gaming. And quite frankly that comment coming on the back of Blizzard's Warcraft is a bit of a laugh. EA wouldnt know the next best thing if it walked into the ceo's office naked and shouted "im the next best thing". Muppets.

Facts:
- Crysis was also funded by EA (they have had a partnership since post Far Cry and things going sour with Ubi) as well as contributions from Nvidia and Intel. To say that Crytek is the sole funder of the game is ill informed about the gaming industry's practices.

- True: Bioware/Pandemic deal is recent (although previously owned by Elevation Partners, company of which Riticello was one of the founders)

- EA have had DICE since 2005
