Super Stardust HD (PS3) - OC Leaderboard Challenge

If you can avoid using bombs on arcade you'll get a higher score:p Remember to zoom through stuff as well, and make sure to use the right weapon for the job (enemies are colour coded according to what weapon will be most effective against them). Practise on planet mode as well :) And try and relax - some of my best scores come from when I'm quite chilled, if you panic you're probably more liable to crash into stuff :) Have fun!!!

edit: and make sure to pick up the right power ups - mainly rock crushers for the first planet then start to top up your gold melter, after that you can work on you ice-crusher. There's a few tips posted about in this thread too :)

further edit: shields are your friends. Picking up a further shield when you already have one sets off a handy bomb, so they're sometimes worth rushing in for (be careful though). Another tip, you don't have to destroy all enemies - the mines will blow up anyway over time so you can concentrate on other things.

What do you mean by zoom through stuff? Oh and when you say colour coded do you mean a red baddie = flame to kill?

Zoom - press L2, takes a few seconds to recharge (there'll be a sound for it) and smash through enemies / rocks - just be careful you judge the distance right, otherwise you could end up in the middle of an asteroid ;)

Rock Crusher - use against green enemies
Gold Melter - use against red enemies
Ice Spliter - use against white enemies

Sometimes there'll be more than one colour on screen at once so it's down to your preference. Also, upgrade upgrade upgrade - the weapons can seem quite weak to begin with but they're pretty cool on overdrive :)

Hmm, now i didn't know either of those two things, i don't feel so bad about my 15mil score now ;o

Some vague tips to help.

1) Every bomb you have left at the end of the round adds to your multiplied score at the end of each round.
The calculation is

TimeLeft x (2000 + (100 x no. of bombs)) x Multiplier

So on the first level you have 3 bombs to start with so if you don'use them the 2000 above will become 2300 etc.

On each planet (made of 5 waves) you get 2 bombs on each of wave 2, 3 & 4.

2) Boosting (L2) though the Points objects gives more points then flying though them. by default these give you 2500 x Multiplier.

So if you have a multiplier of x3 then they are worth 7500 each. BUT if you boost through them they are multiplied even more. If I boost through the same Points bonus I will get 2x7500. If I boost though 2 (I line them up then boost) I will get 2x7500 for 1st one, 3x7500 for next one. If I boosted through 11 (which is possible after you break the big Green bonus blocks) I would get (2x7500)+(3x7500)+....+(11x7500).

So even if you just have a single Bonus point item, boost through it to get double points.

3) I never continue beyond the 1st wave of Planet 1 (LAVE) unless I get at least 6 weapons upgrades.

4) Weapons upgrade order should always be Rock Crusher, then Gold Melter, then Ice Splitter.

I can't think of anything else. A video would help much better but I do not have facilities to do this. I am very fast at killing the bosses, if anyone wants hints on them post here.

Use:
Green (rock crusher) vs rock
Red (gold melter) vs gold
Blue (ice splitter) vs ice

Its best to follow this formula for asteroids as the right weapon gets a damage bonus and means you can destroy them quicker. If you dont know what the different asteroids looks like, check out the splash screen that comes up before you start the game.

Just because enemies are red/green/blue does not mean the same coloured weapon is the "best" against them. Its better to learn the actual properties of the weapons for deciding what is good against which enemies but heres a quick guide:

Green is medium speed, medium range and has a wide spread
Red is short range but homes in on enemies
Blue is fast speed, long range but has little spread

You will learn what you find most useful for different types of enemies.

Strictly regarding arcade mode:
On the first world you need to concentrate on green power ups first (because its mostly rock)
Second world concentrate on red power ups (because its mostly gold)
Third world concentrate blue power ups (because its mostly ice)

The weapon power ups cycle through each colour if you wait a few seconds (dont wait too long though or they will turn white) so its possible to plan your power ups. Also it is useful to start preparing for the next world at the end of youe current world... eg. towards the end of planet one i would start collecting red power ups.

Learn to use your boost defensively as well as offensively. You are invincible for the entire duration and also a split second after it finishes so its possible to use it as a weapon and still have time to get your bearings. Obviously you can also use it to run from danger to a safer spot.

Bombs are a last resort for me because:
a) You can use your boost to run
b) Your total bombs count towards your bonus at the end of each stage

In regards to scoring, the shield (purple) is the most important power up in the game - its even more better than the extra life (yellow) power up. This is because the shield is basically an extra life that also protects your multiplier as it lets you survive a hit. (the number that builds up in the bottom right of the screen but resets when you die). Obviously collect the extra life though if you already have a shield. Also collecting a shield when you already have one makes it turn into a bomb and explode on the spot.

Once you get a feel for the game you can start concentrating on score, which rp2000 pretty much covers.

I writ it after I beat your score to show everyone my leetproness :p
But ojste has come out of nowhere and raped that score now :/

check the scoreboards mcwildcard :p

it can be pushed quite a bit as well, i was gutted cos i had 4 bombs left

bomber mode is def my least favourite of the the new modes, its all about endless and survival!

Guys, I have found conclusive evidence of the existence of aliens and cyborgs.

Do you have any tips for us ojste?

The only thing i can say about survival mode is chaining is IMPORTANT!

For people who dont know what that is you should read rp2000's post, its when you boost into point tokens and you get a multiplier bonus for each successive token you boost into. You will notice that all tokens sort of gravitate towards you when you are close to them so you can sort of line them up then boost into them. Half your score in survival can come from point tokens and boosting alone, i can only manage to survive ~3 mins of real time before i run out of bombs.

As for dodging, you wanna be very safe and sorta stay on the spot while shooting stuff away. I like using rock crusher, its got a good spread and you can actually see whats going on :D

I dont think you actually need any of this though inazuma, youre not far off my score :o

Hehe, Top15 bros :D

I prefer using the rock crusher as it pushes rocks further away. The gold melter doesn't seem to work that well, no matter how fast I twirl it.

I'm amazed that the top player has managed to survive 5+ real minutes  And I don't understand why there is a minute of difference between the 4th and 5th place.

I want to know why I am not at the top of the tables for this game anymore!!!!

In between my Everybody's Golf, completing DMC4, getting last 3 rainbows on PixelJunk Monsters and reaching A class in GT5:P (which all has to be done before GTA4 comes out!!), I plan to play this game and regain my former positions!! For a long time this used to be my favourite game tbh, Now there are too many modes for me to stay at the top of all of them!!!

started to update the scores, though it's mostly cosmetic at the moment - there's about 15 scoreboards to maintain but I think it gives a good idea of who to send in the event of alien / asteroid invasion ;)
